I must not have been in the top 10 there were alot of great looking armies but I have a hard time understanding that.. I guess the rubric just doesnt account for an armys look just steps that might not be neccesary in a great outcome..

I must not have been in the top 10 either then looking at the painting score. Aaron several of the judges felt that there were models in the army that were unfinished, which is why you didn't make the top ten. Some of your squads looked like they only got your base air brush blending and nothing beyond that. If more of your army was to the level of your converted unit (not sure the name but you used the ogre models) you would have scored higher. Erich the painting rubric was post but the sportsmanship wasn't which will hopefully addressed next year.

The sportsmanship was based off last years system only we increased the amount of points. The ranking was from best to worst and points where 10,8,6,5,4,2. In hindsight, this caused there to be "too much" of a dispersion in the scoring. What also seemed to happen was that there may have been an aspect of comp that was taken into account when people made their choices. For example, both Ben and Andrew who were playing the 2 necron flier lists received lower than average scores despite being some of the best sportsmen around.
This is something that will need to be discussed in greater detail moving forward. I agree that we will need to publish the system ahead of time as well. There have been several proposed revisions for consideration.
For anyone who dropped, their sportsmanship score will be skewed lower as they would have had to receive "6's" from their last opponents to keep the system working.
I think we need to have an after event meeting for anyone who is interested and has "ideas" on what should be changed or implemented for next year. We also need to make sure we have "our tournaments identity" established and make sure we take steps to keep that identity. My thought is that we should be a "casual competitive event focused on promoting all the aspects of the hobby." I value everyone elses thoughts and I'll throw out a meeting time on Sunday the 25th at Boldo's - 1:00. Does that work for people?
As a closing note - I would like to thank everyone who was involved in running/helping the event. It appears there has been a great amount of positive feedback and the primary goal of having a fun event seemed to be provided. If anyone doesn't agree with that ------ then the heck with you;) Thanks again.

I should have been more specific (I saw the painting one before) and Shaun answered my sportsmanship questions. I actually do not think it is bad if people account for the list they played against to some extent.
Being a good sport both means how you play with the army you choose and in your choice of army. There are some that, no matter how nice the opponent, are just not fun to play against. A Necron Flyer list or a 27 Flamer alpha strike both seem to fit in that category.
Thanks for the quick responses on these. I completely agree with the concept of establishing an identity for the GT. In spite of there not being comp though, at least this year it seemed that people in general brought really interesting lists.

Shaun,
How about a weekend other than Thanksgiving weekend for the meeting? Plus it gives us some more down time. Some, like me will still be getting in from out of town on Sunday. But if I can't make it I want to throw in my two bits out about sportsmanship scoring with you sometime. Yes there was too much separation, but it definitely worked (i.e. the best sports consistently got scored as 1st or 2nd best opponents and vice a versa).

I agree that Thanksgiving weekend is not a good time. How about the week after?

thats easy to answer.
army list not many in rochester has seen (outside of our copies), with possible balance issues againgst regular 40k armies, in the store championships.... no chance.
think of that list like your warhound. it gets used in a tourney once a year (adepticon)

couple things for tournament format questions that i didnt see answers to when scanning over this:
rulebook missions? any mods? do we know which ones yet? will 'painting' include display boards//conversions//basing, or just simply paint? 1500 pts? 1850 pts?
