Anyone have any theories as to why they would change the turn sequence? Assualt before shooting what's that about?

Probably to streamline the game to facilitate faster play. Supposedly, you will do your entire movement in one phase, combining movement, run, fleet, and assault moves from this edition.

It also leads to less measuring errors on your part, and eliminates premeasuring assault ranges through shooting.
I like this change, I think it will speed up the game quite a bit. I am not quite sure if I can move my Daemons after DS'ing still though (like I can now with fleet). That could be a real bummer as they lineup in blast formation...

Ok yeah, that does sound like it would speed things up a bit.

The trend in fantasy has been giving everyone something big and nasty, I.e. stonehorn, necrosphinx, coven throne etc. Which on top of the ruleset has balanced out fantasy which if following the trend I see GW allowing super heavies minus titans in regular games, the trend seems to be leaning towards flyers a more important asset to each of the armies, with them putting flyers in all the newer releases, and making them, and skimmers harder to kill. Notice the influx of new skimmers in the Necron codex. Although this would seem to make the Eldar armies and tau superior if it emphasizes maneuverability, although Eldar could use this with transports averaging 120 or more pts. Regardless I hope they so as good a job balancing the game as they did with fantasy where even wood elves remain competitive. The only issue between the two atm is 40kto effectively has 4 armies and everyone else due to the power creep, notice how the same armies win the major competitions where as in fantasy you can look at the GW tournament scene and the top 3 armies variate per tournament...here's to hoping for a more balanced game.
