Last night I was going to prime a bunch of Tyranids for Laura. There still seemed to be plenty of paint left in the can but when I went to spray it, it did not cover at all. After inspecting the tip I thought maybe it was clogged or whatnot. So i poked around to clear it out. Then I went out side to spray again. This time it just blew thick messy paint all over the place and now I have about 40 tyranids half dripping with white primer. I know that when the primer fills in valleys on the model thats not good.
So does anyone have any ideas on how to clean some of the primer off? I am pick up some new primer tonight if I have time after work.

That's a tough one. The popular way to get paint off a model is soaking it in simple green. It's commercially available at most hardware stores (and walmart) and it's all natural. It's safe on plastic, and it actually doesn't smell bad.
The problem is that primer is tougher to get off than regular paint. You may need to resort to stronger chemical based paint removers to get primer off, especially if it's caked on. But first I would definitely try the simple green.

I have used, with decent results, LIFT OFF which u can get at home depot. It comes in a variety of flavors, so make sure u get the spray paint and graffiti remover kind. Good Luck.

Does that work well with primer as well as paint? How abusive to the plastic is it? Simple green works very well for paint especially on metal models. In my small amount of experience, it doesn't work so well with primer, especially black primer.

Simple Green will work somewhat on primer and should not damage the models too bad. I would soak them about 4 hours then use a used toothbrush to aggitate the paint off. I have read on many sites that an electric tootbrush works great. I would let you borrow the ex's but I'm not done scrubbing the toilet out with it!

Will simple green effect the glue? Like will it cause the model to need to be reglued?
All the models were plastic except a lictor and a ravaner.

Simple Green may affect the glue but usually isnt too bad.
The metal models can be stripped with brake fluid if the Simple Green doesnt work well enough. Brake fluid is nasty crap though, use gloves and work outside.
I have also heard that Castrol SuperKleen works well too but have not tried it yet.

Being a divorcee myself, I can completely relate to this comment. Give it a scrub for all of us! On a more serious note though, I soaked in simple green for almost 20 hours without much success on black primer. Everything I've read says basically that the others melt the plastic. Haven't tried the electric toothbrush though, I'll have to give it a try. Any ideas on how to fix a bent/broken track on a rhino?

Simple green does indeed strip primer, I just freshly stripped a batch of scouts down to bare metal again. Make sure you get the concentrate stuff, aka the one in the larger jug as opposed to the dilute one with the little spray bottle attachment on it. I just used an old short stubby jam jar or the likes that is big enough for me to fit my hand in so I can pull the minis out. I then let hem soak for a couple of days (maybe 3 or 4 I think, I lost track as I actually forgot about them to be honest). Then run them under some warm water and give them a scrub with an old toothbrush and it comes right off pretty much. I also accidentally left a plastic bit in there with the metal ones for the 3 or 4 days and it stripped fine and didnt get damaged or melt or anything.
I have stripped a lot of miniatures doing this and you can reuse the simple green a couple of times depending how many mini's you are doing per batch how much paint etc. Also if you really want to make the stuff last sometimes I will filter it through a coffee filter to get the paint flakes out and that prolongs the batch a littler further.
