I figured out how to post these so... here they are, my first 3 painted models. Well.... They aren't finished yet obviously, but they're starting to look like something. I still need to get the jump packs on them and paint the chain swords, work on the detail some, and get them based. I figure, I might be able to finish these first 3 by January at the rate I'm going. ;D What do you think for my first try painting 40k models? Suggestions, criticisms (constructive ones Dragon ) would be appreciated.

They are looking good. the faces turned out well. I might say highlight the hair on the head with another color and add some highlights to the pelts. Maybe its just the lighting in the picture though. Looking good for your first models.
I know how you feel about getting them all painted. I have tons of work ahead of me before the GT!

Looks good, though I'm not a big fan of the chest markings being painted different colors on different models or the colors you used for the purity seals. Wrong color hair on the one guy though (According to Wolf Background, the hair gets grey as the Marine gets older, and I'm assuming these guys are 13th company so they should be quite old ) The faces do look really good...Better than I can do at the moment. Might want to consider a different color for the magazine/chain than the main part of the Bolt Pistol/Chainsword to make it stand out a bit. The should pads bleed a little bit. From years of painting Wolves, I can say that it's hard to get it perfect (I doubt any of my models had it perfect...) but I think from a table-top perspective, it won't be noticed (Only if you get a nice close view like this picture).

I know they're kind of expensive points wise, but I really like the jumpers. Any suggestions on how to fix/prevent this anyone? Yeah, I know the bolt pistols need work. I actually haven't really started the chainswords yet. Thanks. I've been really struggling with them. Especially the eyes!

I would not worry about the hair color too much. If somone wants to knock you for what color your space marine's hair is?... well yeah..
Not sure about the choulder pads bleeding? The yellow looks really thick and solid. Maybe just touch up the edges where the space wolf grey meets the yellow for a cleaner line.
For your first models, I think these looks really good.

The hair color is right for a blood claw I was mostly just being a little silly (Thus the ). Back in the day, almost Blood Claws were jump packers, then GW changed the fluff to say that Wolves don't like jump packs and jacked the prices for them.

Thanks.
I do appreciate the criticisms though, even if I don't agree with all of them. I figure I can learn from all of them and look forward to what advice I'll get on Sunday.

I won't comment much due to the lighting in the pisture making it difficult to see the detail. But for an overall look, these look nice. As for how long it's taking, things get faster as you get more comfortable with the process. First runs are always the hardest because you need to figure out what order to apply the paints in, how you are going to arrange the colors, etc. Plus, you are still new to the whole painting an army thing. Eventually, you'll pick up tricks to speed up the process. And believe me, the learning process never stops. Each time I learn a new technique, it slows me down again while I adjust my methods to the new technique. Plus, eventually you will start doing conversions, and this can really slow you down depending on how much you do.
At least you are putting inan effort. I know people who have been playing for years who still don't have fully painted armies.
And I agree with the comments in the other post. You will never be done. There is always more to paint/buy/model/repaint. I'm even at the point where I am going back over old armies and redoing them. This is partialy to curtail my buying habits, but mostyl because I know I can make them look better now.

Yeah...Comes from having too many armies and deciding my Wolves would look much better in another color, for the second time Though I can field a fully painted army with any of my armies (My Guard needs Inquisitorial support or alot of doctrines though).

I'll bring them with me tonight so you can see them.
I tried the best I could with the lighting. I had my table/magnifying art lamp with the bulb that's supposed to be good for true colors on. Maybe the white background wasn't the best idea? It's so hard to take a picture that does a mini justice.

Yeah...Tell me about it...For the pictures of my Eldar, I had to use two sources of light and brace the camera. Still took several tries to get somewhat right.

You did just fine Steve. Perfect photography and perfect paining will come but what you posted is something to be proud of. As for the yellow shoulder pads, Orville tends to prime them white then ink them yellow, much less thick and smoother. Keep up the good work Steve.

Are there inks at Boldo's? I've read a few good applications for these and would like to pick up one or two perhaps.
I've also heard from some that they aren't as easy to work with as paint, opinions?

Boldo does have inks...
As for how to use them, some find it difficult and some don't. I think part of it is how you use them and what you hope to achieve. I use inks sparingly, and mostly just for pulling out details by darkening recesses.

So you use them more for washes than base coating/highlights?
