D20 40k update.
The group returns from the Weren planet “Kurg” There they found a small civilization under attack by the same extraterrestrial human forces that attacked earth. The United nations had sent earth’s captured imperial “Cobra” attack vessel” into a part of orbit around the alien planet away from the attacking fleet. Colonel Cooper ordered a single diplomatic team to the surface by shuttle. The Shuttle Pilot and Engineer would stay with the shuttle while a team lead by lieutenant Nikoli Stukov would go and make contact with the locals and see if they could help fight the imperials set to attack earth again.
The diplomatic team found the remains a caravan of what could be only described as covered wagons. The wagons had suffered an attack by strafing imperial fighter craft. Aliens of this world which could be described as sasquatch from old earth legends. The team searched through the bodies and gave medical assistance to a lone survivor. The lieutenant convinced the weren survivor that his team was not part of the attacking force but was instead there to help. They followed the survivor back to a renaissance era walled city. There they fought their way into a section of the city housing the city’s governor a large weren duke.
After the duke called forth his own linguistic who could form a crude understanding of the English language. There the diplomatic team learned that the weren had already made contact with a third alien race that they called “the grays”. Those aliens had left a temple which housed machinery that the weren did not understand. They only knew that the greys had promised it as a place of communication and learning. The temple had however already been found by imperial soldiers who were defending it pending their own scientists review.
The weren duke promised the diplomatic party food, supplies and the assistance of his soldiers if they could make the temple send forth for help from the gray’s. Lieutenant Stukov agreed provided that his team could study the contents of the temple after they had secured it. The duke agreed and four weren warriors and the weren linguist were dispatched to help the diplomatic team.
Lieutenant Stukov lead a three sided assault on the temple. It was guarded by only a single ten man squad of hardened imperial army soldiers. With difficulty the temple was taken at the unfortunate loss of the weren soldiers and Dr Derek Stiles. While the rest of the diplomatic team tended to their wounds the squads technical expert Tien Xhou Wong activated the computer library and tried to access the promised communications system.
Tien Xhou Wong found data in the alien library on the geography of local space, details on the imperial humans and where they came from as well as the planetary location of three addition points of alien contact with the gray’s and two other alien races. Best of all the temple not only housed a library but a control platform for a planetary defense missile system. Using instructions gleaned as best he could from the gray’s library he programmed the missile system to shoot down all imperial pattern ships in the space above the world Kurg.
To the diplomatic team’s delight they watched with amazement as plasma missiles flew into the sky and blew up the imperial ships. The team was horrified when their shuttle pilot radioed them to say he received the last communications of the earth’s ship which has also been shot down by the plasma missile attack. The Earth Team was stranded.
Lieutenant Stukov ordered his tech back to the consoles to concentrate on getting the communications array working. Tien Xhou Wong tried over and over to get a message to broadcast but each time the communications array showed a physical error. The tech labored for hours until he deduced the problem was with a communication station linked to the temple. Repairs would have to be done there. The lieutenant and tech came out of the temple and got some rest. The rest of the diplomatic team marveled at the laser rifles that they took from the dead guardsmen.
It was about a week trip by a weren sailing ship to a mountainside where Tech Tien Xhou Wong determined the main communications station was. The group wearing furs supplied by their new weren friends made their way up the mountainside. It was slow climbing across rough snowy terrain, but the site of a platoon of imperial guardsmen making their way up the mountain put some more speed in their steps.
An electric fence that needed to be disabled by the tech showed that they were on track to a more high tech area. The team explored a set of buildings finding stock piles of ore, long forgotten robot parts and some not so inactive defense robots. Searching the station is slow at first and rooms are searched by flashlight. Eventually both a electric generator and its circuit breakers are found. The station is restored to full power just in time for the teams outside sentry Gregor Ivanovitch to report a transport tank arriving at the alien base. A squad of guardsmen and a large armored cyborg priest, entered the main building and began to search the compound including heading to the power station building that the diplomatic team was in the basement of.
An ambush was planned and the team fought off the guard unit capturing the cyborg priest. Lieutenant Stukov transmitted a message out into space with the tachyon transmitter and a ship landed in the courtyard between buildings. A man sized bug who identified himself from the race of the vrusk offered to assist the team inresponce to their SOS. Taking their hostage they received a ride back to earth aboard the vrusk ship morning star.
The team was brought to U.S. space defense command and debriefed on the details of their mission. Satisfied with the accomplishments of the diplomatic team the U.S. air force revealed that there would no longer be United Nations missions, but were ready to commission the survivors of the diplomatic team onto the U.S. Air force exploration ship the “Drake” The team would be their front line diplomatic and exploration team. They would be reequipped with the best weapons of the U.S. military. The team unanimously agreed and reequipped for their next mission among the stars.
