You know Steve even the new ones don't come painted...(hint, hint)
Now after you say "I play Space Wolves!" you might not hear "I'm sorry" but instead something like "It figures." Or "Why wouldn't you play Space Wolves?" ;D
Maybe Orville will find where he buried his in the back yard and dig them up...

For those that say, "it figures" or, "why wouldn't you" I'll say that I played them through 4th and 5th edition with their 2nd edition codex. It's about time the got thrown a bone. Edit: My bad, it was 3rd edition codex, still.... ;D

[dio] LOCK UP THE WOLVES [/dio]
yea, this codex makes perfect sense. lets give the best close combat fighters the best long ranged support squad, and amazing psychic powers!

I kinda have to agree with Horst, in general the space marines as a whole got a huge boost across the board.
I feel the boost was so huge that im done playing loyalist marines.
Poor chaos guys got gutted. But i figure that will be my next army.

Gotta love the 2nd edition codex...Termies as troops, every one of them with an assault cannon, and every blood claw comes with a power weapon/fist WS 5 grey hunters/Blood Claws was nice too.

Seriously Steve, you and Orville both have gutted it out with bad 3rd edition rules, you both deserve a little payback, but I am not looking forward to seeing every new player deciding to do a Space Wolves army simple because they are under costed for what they can do. I always have liked the Space Wolves models and I am looking forward to seeing some new painted armies.
Bring back the Wolves Steve but remember you are fresh out of excuses not to have them painted now!

Agreed. Painting to re-commence very soon. I also don't want to see everyone jump on the bandwagon like tends to happen with new codices. That's one of the reasons I went with nids instead of orks for a second army. Honestly, I think that the new codex is pretty balanced. They do have some nice features, but those are costly. Bjorn for instance is pretty nasty, but at a full 105 points more than a Ven Dread, it balances out. We should get a game in soon and you'll see what I mean.

The new codex is right on par I feel. its got nice hard hitting HQs but they all run you 250 points. The troops and heavy spport just got brought in like stats and pointwise like the standard marines and they were still able to keep enough of the wolfy abilities and fluff to still be fun. The reall nasty spells are Njal's Turn based one. But he is like 275 points so thats a heafty price tag. The Jaws of the world wolf that most people complain about is really not that big of a deal. Any Space marine stat character is rolling a 4 or less on a D6 to stay in the game. Special characters have intiative 5 mostly anyways so they would fail on a roll of 6, which fails any model anyways. I had it used on me and the line you can hit so many models. So unless its the most extreme circumstances, you only going to have to test 3 or 4 models. I like the feel and play of the new space wolf codex. its about time they got a nice boost to their army. I hope my necrons get a new codex soon. As for Chaos, nothing wrong with that Codex

jaws of the world wolf is a major thorn in my side. I do NOT like it.
it breaks the game against necron players, against nidzilla players, nurgle daemon players, and is lame against marine players.
your greater unclean one, thats immune to instant death and all, has a 33% chance of being sucked into the ground and killed in one shot, from 24" away.
same for your nightbringer / lords... instantly dead. part of a squad? who cares! you die.
my marine HQ is pretty heavily kitted out... TH/SS, terminator armor. he costs 170 points. his WORST save is 3++. your basically giving the enemy a sniper rifle that causes instant death and is AP3. (2++ save = 5- fail). lame. and normal 100 point psykers can take it.
I do not like jaws of the world wolf. any other power that causes instant removal of a character (like boon of mutation, the ork thingies) are either random or 6" range. not 24" range.
Space wolves in general look fine. but they should have put more thought into the psychic powers given out.

Space wolves in general look fine. but they should have put more thought into the psychic powers given out. Your Space Marine HQ would need to roll a 6 to be removed from play..... anything else and he stays in the game. If he rolls a 1-5 he is safe. I play Necrons, yeah we are initiative 2.. but who is the space wolf player going to target? A unit of Warriors to try and kill 3 or 4? Or will he target the lord or Nightbringer? Lord Needs to roll a 5 or 6 to be removed from play, same with the nightbringer. A carnifex will usually be initiative 2 since for 6 points that allows you to hit before a powerfist. So the Carnifex needs to roll a 4, 5 or 6 to stay alive to this power. Since monsterous creatures gets to subtract -1 from their roll, if he rolled a 3 then -1 he is at 2 and passes the test. So your carnifex has a 50% chance to die. the odds are not that bad. The spell is only 18" range also, from the caster, so you have to be aware and position yourself. I played against a space wolf list last night with this power using the new codex. the power bagged the rune priest 2 berserkers all game.

I'm glad to see that one of the "upstanding players" has said something constructive. ;DX7
