Just took a look at the "official" allies chart and I got to say I am pretty excited.
Eldar and Tau = Battle Brothers (and you all laughed at my tau-dar paint scheme... bytches) Eldar and Dark Eldar = Battle Brothers Chaos Marines and IG = Allies of Convenience.
I can think of some pretty neat combos that I'd like to try with Tau/Eldar and CSM/IG. Since Tau/Eldar are Battle Brother, guide/fortune/Doom open up a lot of possibilities to augment the Tau's crappy BS skills and weak armor saves.
As for Chaos, even though they cannot share benefits with guard, I can now run traitor guard in my Word Bearer list. Russes, Sentinals, heavy weapons teams, etc...
So what does everyone else think about the Allies rule? I hope the rules turn out as good as they sound.

... Except for tyranids who don't have friends right? Or fortifications.
I do like the idea of having a farseer fortune my grotesques and guide my poison shots tho lol.
I know Jay said the GT would be "non-comp" but I wonder if allies and the full range of forts will be allowed.

While the actual allies part is a alright idea, the ability to share army abilities between the two allies is gonna be stupid.
Hopefully Im wrong and army wide USR's cant be shared with your ally.
Anyone care for space wolves and blood angels with FNP thunderwold cav. with furious charge?? what about FNP spammed missle long fangs.
Eldar and dark eldar as battle brothers now huh??? Look out for those rerollable shadow field saves and guided, doomed poison weapons.
I dont understand how Tau and eldar are best buddies either, i dont remember any fluff, at least form the tau perspective, that they go out chopping off heads then kick back afterwards and have a few beers.
Prolly gonna be a run on farseer models also cause everyone gonna want psychic defense.
Im sure much more will get abused. And no i will not be using Fateweaver in my chaos army either.
Im my opinion TO's should consisder making all allies convenience only to avoid some of the sick combos out there.
Anyway i digress, back to painting.

I'm glad I'm painting my Orks as Blood Axes, now between my guard and orks I can have a armoured company with ork supporting infantry.
But I can see farseers and rune priests making special guest appearences in alot of lists

From a fluff perspective, there was a book released a few years back from Black Library named Xenology. In the course of that book you learn that the Eldar manipulated the genetic development of the tau and were the ones responsible for the ethereals having that crystal in their foreheads that exude a level of control over the rest of the tau, thus the obedience and reverence the tau have for the ethereals.
Because the Tau have a very limited presence in the warp, I guess this was the Eldar's way of grooming a race to help them combat Chaos in the future.

I was thinking that my Daemons could now DS off of icons on turn 1 from some CSM. Not to mention the fact that I might grab myself a Lash Sorcerer!

Does brother in arms mean wraithlords can use webway portals?
Anyone know if there's any penalties for "desperate allies"?

Kind of silly that Nids can't ally with Guard. Happens in the fluff all the time.
Would make a nice genestealer cult without resorting to counts-as.

From what i've read, if you are desparte allies then at the beginning of each turn you roll a d6 and if you roll a 1 (or maybe a 6) then your "allies" dont do anything that turn as they dont trust you.

I think it's something that could be really fun if done properly or really broken if people want to abuse it.
At least GK don't have any BiA so no fortuned paladins, but who's excited to see farseers or psyker battle squads in every army?

I'm TOTALLY going to pick up a Farseer and a few Pathfinder squads for my Crimson Fist army.
Fluff wise it was a Farseer and a host of "shimmering shapes firing" down the ridge line that helped Pedro Kantor at the Battle of Traitor's Gorge so I think it would be wicked fun to make a list around that idea.
While the allies move is pretty blatantly geared toward getting people like me to buy models I otherwise wouldn't I'm really hoping this means 6th is going to be a fun system.
