A good friend of mine, Nick Baran did a guest editorial for Bell of Lost souls about the "intent" of the designers for how 6th should be played. It is well researched and the comment section seems to have alot of the things we've all ben talking about lately as we've been trying to figure out how to run 6th in a tournament setting. www.belloflostsouls.net/2012/12/40k-editorial-search-for-true-6th.html

40k isn't intended for tournament play, or Matt Ward wouldn't be allowed to write rules..He wrote the demon army book for fantasy and it broke the game bad enough to where it required a massive reboot in the form of 8th edition..regardless of that, fantasy is much more popular to their home european crowd, which they will tend to serve better in the form of the much more balanced fantasy..while 40k is merely a cash cow for GW, supported by an outstanding collection of stories, and unbalanced rules favoring flavor of the month armies... 40k is meant for fun beer and pretzels games, and d**n is that a good time, the only way to properly run a 40k tournament to give each army a proper chance is to balance the game by creating army specific rules and restrictions because not all armies are created equal (look at the major influx of Grey Knight, and Necron armies in the uncomped tournaments)...but in my opinion the game as intended was for fun settings not competitive..

i believe that fantasy is a beer and pretzels game too pogy ;D every 8th edition fantasy gt ive been too has had army specific comp. But it works. Im all for comp...there is so many things to be considered in a realease that some design flaws are sure to be overlooked in playtesting. I say let us do it ourselves if they make a mistake. everyone has their own house rules in beerpong

I like how you added house rules for pong god knows we all do it lol. I agree with you and i shouldve have worded my opinion better but i think the designer intent for 6th ed was to bring a sense of balance similar to that of 8th ed fantasy which is much more balanced as a whole. It can be demonstrated by the lack of flavor of the month armies in comparison to 40k. The Brawler Bash this year was a great example, i did not play myself as my skaven werent finished at the time, but i noticed a much more diverse field in terms of army composition and the various armies in use. There were no comp rules or restrictions as well as no player made army updates to wood elves for example, yet every army in the game was present, no one army was overwhelmingly present. This does not happen so much in 40k, and i do understand the different style Daboyz bring to the table, focusing more on composition and the hobby aspect rather than steamrolling the opponent..so when i noticed the locals didnt dominate the GT i wasnt suprised because they dot play the power game like the rest of the US. 11th co competitions down here are all about the math-hammer and min maxing, so youll see 4 units of 5 warriors in night scythes as troops with 18 wraiths as fast attack etc. I may have gotten off track but the point being if you look at the "major" tournaments you will see a mass of copy paste lists and flavor of the month armies, versus fantasy where for the most part there is much more army diversity and not a lot of duplicate lists...at least in my recent experience, but then again it could just be the different playstyle daboyz bring to the table. 6th ed is much better than 5th but 40k does suffer from the "matt ward effect" which should be blatantly obvious. Regardless though if im ever in ny ill take you on in beerhammer fantasy or 40k and i will bring the Guiness and either a metric crap ton of rats or silly pink evil spess mahreens

yes another derp move, but the silly demons they duffed onto broken god tier sell like crazy for them, so maybe tzeentch is behind everything at GW clasping his hands muttering just as planned

and though demons are up there in the food chain lets see what matt ward unleashes on 6th with dark angels...im guessing deathwing will have wings so they can attack flyers, i mean who doesnt want a chainfist terminator punching out flyers?

i would actually like to see some kind of jet pack flyer. Just to be on the record that I will never play dark angels when i say that. but something that regularly chomps on flyers like that would be great

Allowing Jump Packs/Jet Packs to assault flyers would, imo, improve a unit that is generally considered mediocre and give a lot of armies some interesting anti-flyer options.
