Just want to share some tidbits on the codex. After some good playtesting, the maulerfiend has greatly impressed me. Prolly my favorite unit at the moment. At 125 points and a crapload of special rules,as well as my ability to roll a 5++, this unit is a steal. Their favorite targets are vindicator's. I run 2 and with few exceptions they haveat least made their points back.
During the ard boyz today they killed a crapload of infantry and vehicles.
Also tried the demon prince for the first time today. I slapped the axe on him, and he went to town. He prolly killed around 50 marines in this tourney alone. Expensive but extremely deadly, especially if u wipe a unit on your oppenents turn. No eternal warrior did get him killed today, but I should killed the librarian before the squad first.
I know the internet likes khorne marked marines over beserkers, but I gotta say the WS 5 and fearless are more than worth the extra points. I am having a little trouble running a 16 man unit effectively, but I also find players dumping their entire army into getting that 1 KP.
Kharn is a boss....nuff said.
The dirge caster is best piece of wargear in the book, especially on a landraider. No overwatch...i'll take it.
Eventually im gonna run some allied demon units, two 16 man bloodletter squads are still cheaper than one 16 man beserker squad.

I havnt looked much at the khorne units yet, although i do plan on adding some khorne units in, as for deamons....maybe eventually, I really dont think CSM need more hitting power so I believe traitor guard make a great combo(despite also having a strong codex)
the ap 2 deamon weapons(manreaper/axe of fury in my list) just add so much punch to close combat and even made my 28 man zombie units much more threatening to charge, first game a blood angels player reached my zombie units with 10(2x5) sanguinary guard + ~6 assualt marines+libby and just with the 2 chaos Hq's in the mix made short work of everything while my vehicles continued to shoot other things
obviously the heldrake is all the rage currently but the tactical flexability to come in and vector strike something and then bale-flame a unit camping in cover cannot be understated!!! although after seeing my tau get the boost they did im glad i did not bye a second drake!!
I personally dont run landraiders and the only vehicle upgrade i would take is deamonic posession on vindicator, other than that my vehicles are good as is(defiler/forgefiend) but i can see the benefit with ignoring overwatch(again especially seeing the tau codex)

I played against chaos two games, and the army seems pretty good. They have some powerful stuff, but nothing blatantly ridiculous. Both were good games, despite my dice hating me on my first game and my opponent making upwards of nine or ten 5+ demon save on his vehicles in a row. That really hurt the pace of the game but was still fun overall. Actually I'm pretty sure I'm the BA player that played both of you. You were both great opponents so thanks for the games.
As for the axes those are the one thing I think is pretty imbalanced. They completely rebalanced how power weapons are supposed to work in the new edition. And then they go and give Chaos the means means to completely destroy that balance. It's one thing to give them strong options and another to just upset the balance they tried to create in the first place. They even went so far as to specifically state certain special character weapons inflicted the unwieldy trait on their axes in the FAQ.
Maybe it's because I play an assault heavy army but I think those initiative striking ap2 axes just swing the odds too far into chaos favor and imbalance the options everyone else has to take.
Other then that I feel the chaos book while powerful is fun to play against and has the options to give you and your opponent many interesting and varied games. Both of the lists I played against functioned radically different. And that was nice.

Yup i guess that was you the funny thing is i made all those 5++ deamon saves on my vehicles and made a only SINGLE one for the rest of the tourney!!! As far as the axe yea maybe they should have kept it +1 or 2 attacks since it doesn't have unwieldy instead of the +d6 but to be fair besides my defiler that axe of khorne+typhus(unwieldy) was my ONLY close combat punch, unless you're scared of some zombies that is ;D But yea thanks for the game and to my other opponents doug and garrett all were enjoyable games!!!
