I figured this was as good a place as any to put this.
I have seen talk in many threads about what rules we like and don't like at tournies. Not necesarily Rules I guess, but things at tournaments. For instance, I like soft scores as I think they make the game a better environment. But, I have yet to see a perfect sytem for doint them. I doubt I ever will, but we can try.
Basically, I would like to discuss the likes and dislikes of the group as far as tournaments go, as well as try to come up with new methods of various scorings.
I'm a huge fan of painting scores. (Wona few so go figure.) When I won my first one, I realized that painting was fun, and now I spend more time painting each figure. That being said, I would like to see a better system for paint scoring. Having your opponents do it can lead to shafting by losers, but one judge can lead to a very subjective score list. Perhaps a blending of the two. Have the players rank their opponents, and have a judge rate the lists, and then combine the two. Or maybe use the old paint checklist score sheets and combine it with a player ranking system.
Same could be done for comp. Use the checklist for the structured score and then have a judge or the players rank them based on theme and such.
Not sure what to do about sportsmanship. The old system lead to ties too often, and Boldos system could shaft someone on points who was great to play. Maybe go back to the old system, but at the end of the day, everyon submits the name of their favorite opponent for sportsmanship. These get added on to the scores. Winner decided that way.
I like the best general idea that Boldo did this weekend. We should use it more often.
I like the idea of theme tables. Espescially ones with special rules. Cityfight, jungle, and such. Maybe take it a step further. Three round tourney. First round, no themes. 2nd and third, the topped rank pairings get put on the theme tables. If these players are so good, then they should be able to adapt to the environment. Another way to test their skills.
Bring back the Youngblood award at appropriate tourneies. Coyotes Den? (How many of them were kids?) It might help to encourage younger players.
Maybe do a mini-golden demon. Each player submit a unit for judging by their peers. Each player picks three favorites. Winner by majority. If a tie occurs, organizer gets final vote.
Obviously these can't all be done all the time, but they are ideas to liven up the same old tournies.
I know this is a long and rambling post, but I thought I'd try to start something other than the usual smack talk and banter. We have so few of these types of threads here.
