“Argo…it is good to see you healed. It has been too long since you have ministered to our brother’s faith, Brother-Chaplain.”
Lord Kantor’s voice is soft as I walk out onto the balcony where he is waiting for me. High above our temporary base of operations, the Chapter master looks out across the expanse of the Hellblade Mountains, watching the Mechanicus laboring at rebuilding Arx Tyrannus, Fortress-Monastery and home of the Crimson Fists. It has been nearly 10 years since Waagghh Snagrod was repelled from our world, and only now is the edifice nearing completion.
“Thank you my lord. It has indeed been too long since I have been around my brother’s, too long since Syral.” And the injuries I suffered there slaying the Ork Warboss I think to myself. Although I had eventually dismembered the kine, I had suffered horrific injuries and only now, nearly 6 months later, am I back to peak physical condition. The thought of taking such punishment from the creature brings a flash of anger from deep inside. The hate rises even more when I think of my revered armor and bolter, weapons of war that had served the chapter for millennia, now damaged beyond repair. All I have left is my badge of office, the Crozium Traitor’s Bane, itself a relic of the chapter and a powerful weapon.
Lord Kantor’s words brings my mind back into focus.
“It is also good to see that Traitor’s Bane is still with my Brother-Chaplain. 10 years ago we lost so many of our Chapter’s relics it does my soul good to see what we have left still in service to the Chapter.” Lord Kantor’s voice remains low, but with mention of all we have lost, a steel edge can be heard in his voice. Even my anger continues to rise at the thought of those relics we lost. As a Chaplain and keeper of my Chapter’s history, the affront is more personal to me than most. My hands ball into a fist and blood is drawn as my nails pierce my palm.
“And the Chapter’s relics are the reason for your summoning here before me. Recently Chief Librarian Deguerro and a number of his Codicier’s have been hearing whispers and seeing images in the aether. The Librarius speaks of items lost to us that may now be found.”
My focus is now entirely on my Lord. Although anything pertaining to the warp, especially visions lifted from it are vague at best, anything making mention of our lost relics must be taken seriously. Next to the spiritual well being of the battle brothers under our care, and the induction of new aspirants into the scared rites of the Crimson Fists, the protection and recovery of our Chapter’s relics are chief among concerns of all Chaplain’s.
“My Lord?”
“Deguerro speaks of a number of vision, but chief among them is of the blood of a father once again returning to the hands of his children” As he says these words Lord Kantor stares directly into my eyes.
“The Scepter of the Blood….” My mind reels. Had the Librarius found our most sacred object? The Scepter of Blood contained within it a portion of blood taken from our progenitor Rogel Dorn itself. Its loss had been a devastating blow to the moral of the entire chapter, and any chance in its recovery must be seized, no matter how vague.
“The Scepter of Blood was my thoughts exactly, and not only that Brother-Chaplain, but visions show of a blade stolen from a fallen hero near a great portal, and of a tomb of history. Can you think of anything this could possibly mean?”
My mind immediately begins searching for references to any of the lost relics of our chapter. It was part of the training required to become a Chaplain to memorize the details of all objects held dear to us that were either in our possession or lost to us over time. It does not take me long to piece together what the images could be.
“My lord, this tomb of history must be the Book of Honor, stolen from us at the same time as the Scepter. To recover that book would bring honor back to all the name’s of hero’s transcribed onto its pages.”
“And the blade?”
I hesitate again before answer, mentally opening the portion of memory that contains all the sacred blades to our chapter and the nature of their loss.
“My lord, did not Captain Dirgo carry the relic blade Riad when he fell in battle defending the gates of New Rynn City? The gates themselves could be this portal that the Chief Librarian speaks off. Riad was never recovered with Dirgo’s body.”
I wait silently, lost in my own thoughts, as my lord, Lord Hellblade as the mortals call him, processes the information I have given him. In the distance a Mechanicus bulk lifter is descending slowly through the atmosphere, no doubt delivering another load of materials for the reconstruction of Arx Tyrannus. Its thrusters fire, lighting the dusky sky up across the horizon. At that moment my lord spoke again.
“It is decided. Brother –Chaplain Argo, we cannot pass up the chance at retrieving that which was stolen from us so long ago, no matter how slim the chance may be. You are to assemble a strike force of your choosing from the brothers and equipment we have here on planet and you are to leave for the DaBoyz system at once. It is there, on the planet UofR that Chief Librarian Deguerro and his Librarius have seen our relics. You are to use any force necessary in their recovery, do you understand?”
“I understand my lord. I shall assemble my force and leave immediately.” My pulse is thundering in my veins. The prospect of leading my brothers again into combat, in search of our heritage no less brings a faint smile to the corner of my mouth.
“Also Brother-Chaplain…I understand your armor and bolter were damaged beyond repair at Syral. I want to present to you the armor of High Chaplain Tomasi and his storm bolter. They were recovered in the ruins of our former home and have been since repaired. I can think of no better warrior-priest to go into battle with them than you.” Lord Kantor gestured behind me and I turn to see Techmarine Ruzco approaching with a number of servitors behind him. I notice that the servitors are carrying a suit of ancient terminator armor between them.
I approach the armor and run my hands across the breastplate. The instant my finger tips touch its surface I feel an immediate connection with the suit of armor, as if its spirit calls out to mine, looking forward to the battle we will fight together in the future. Brother Ruzco helps me through the process of donning the armor, the entire time Lord Kantor watching with a glint of approval and pride in his eyes. As I make the final connections to the armor and done the skull faced helm I feel new power rushing through my veins.
“My lord, I thank you for the honor of serving the chapter in this revered suit of armor. It’s spirit calls out for vengeance against those who engineered the death of its former master, and I intend to bring exactly that to all who stand in my way of recovering what is rightfully ours.”
“Go then my brother. The Strike Cruiser Aurora is yours to command. Dispatch to me the disposition of your force prior to departure…and bring righteous fury down upon our foes.”
“It shall be done my lord. In Dorn’s name.”
I turn and march away from my master. I have much to assemble and very little time to do so.
Unit Histories:
Terminator Assault Squad Victurix: Veteran Sergeant Victurix was instrumental in the defense of New Rynn City, as his vanguard terminators cut a bloody swath through any ork intruders that attempted to infiltrate the city through the sewer pipes underground. Later it was his squad that led the Crimson Fist Strike force through the pipes to capture New Rynn’s City spaceport so that Imperial Relief could be landed.
Dreadnaught Jerian: Jerian was one of the many Chapter Dreadnaughts that fought in the defense of New Rynn City. He was entombed after he fell to the Tyranids in the Battle of Emerald Sands and still carries a burning hatred for the soulless xeno’s to this day.
Dreadnaught Ulis: Revered Old One of the Crimson Fists Chapter. Once it was decided that the old ones of the chapter would be too ponderous to take part in the seizure of the space port outside New Rynn City, it was brother Ulis that was assigned command of the remaining Crimson Fist elements (including all dreadnaughts) that stayed behind to defend the Cassar.
*It should be noted that both Dreadnoughts were outfitted with Multi-Melta’s at Chaplain Argo’s insistence, lest the taskforce encounter heavy enemy armor or need to force its way into heavily fortified structures.
Land Speeder Typhoon’s Commander Solari: Commander of the land Speeder Squadron of the 3rd Company during the attack on Badlanding, it was Sergeant Solari that was tasked with searching caves north of Krugerport for any survivors of the Ork assault. Later he and his squadron of Land Speeders were upgraded to Land Speeder Typhoons and tasked with harassing Ork light armor at the battle of New Rynn City, a task the two speeders “Hasta” and “Calamus” under his command, excelled at.
Attack Bike Oro: Brother Oro and his gunner Brother Alcador have made a reputation for themselves within the chapter at being experts in the destruction of heavy enemy armor. Although initially fielded alongside additional bike units, Brother’s Oro and Alcador have perfected an ambush style attack plan that has seen the ruin of multiple enemy battle tanks and even the disabling of a reengage super heavy battle tank. Also, they have proved invaluable scouts and have on more then on occasion stopped their brothers from falling into enemy ambush.
Tactial Squad Viejo: Sergeant Veijo was the first marine located by Pedro Kantor and Captain Cortez after the destruction of the original Arx Tyrannus. He was found defending the fallen form of Chaplain Rhava. In the short time since the invasion of Rynn’s World, Sergeant Veijo and his squad has made a name for themselves in the destruction of heavy enemy armor, even going as far as destroying an ork Stompa single handedly by ambushing the construct in a narrow pass and catching it with Melta weaponry after Veijo himself wrecked one of the stompa’s drive mechanisms with his powerfist.
Tactical Squad Soto: Another hero of the Battle of New Rynn City, Sergeant Soto was placed in command of the Gorian Wall in the absence of Captain Alvez. Famed across the chapter for their bolter accuracy, Sergeant Soto leads by example by eschewing a close combat weapon aside from his combat knife, relying more on his accuracy with a bolter to kill his foe.
Tactial Squad Delos: Squad Delos was instrumental in the defense of New Rynn City, helping hold the Northern Umbris Gate of the city against Ork attack. Indeed it was Sergeant Delos himself that was placed in overall command of the gate by Captain Dirgo prior to his death. Sergeant Delos was presented with the chainsword Foe Reaper by Chapter Master Kantor for his brilliant defense of the gate.
Techmarine Ruzco and Thunderfire Cannon X9-185: Techmarine Ruzco was intramental in coordinating with Imperial reinforcements from the recaptured Rynn city Space Port. Prior to that, he and the Thunderfire Cannon X9-185 reaped a bloody toll on Ork attack parties at the Gorian Wall during the defense of New Rynn City.
Whirlwind Spear of Dorn: A newly christened fire support tank in the Chapter’s arsenal, the Spear of Dorn has yet to cut its teeth against the enemies of mankind.
