Matt Ward is the anti-Christ of 40k..funny thing is he broke fantasy with a single army book and hasn't written one since..so apparently Gw in their infinite wisdom decided letting him wreak havoc on 40k was a good idea to sell models..now ok I get it gray knights in power armor are really good, but using that to increase profits dramatically isn't so bueno..people will eventually find other means to satisfy their geekdom eventually ..hell war machine is a fantastic game..Gw needs to realize there is competition out their..charging $35 for 5 models where the price for 10you used to be $30 is not a good way to appease the player base or bring in new players..granted we are guilty for buying said products but the more games that contest the beloved games are constantly being released by former GW employees using the old GW model emphasizing the hobby itself rather than the power creep present in the rules...a new twist on WWII is out called dust with pre primed pre assembled minis that are easily converted because of their plastic mould and aren't so hard to replace with the low prices...eventually I believe they will notice this and change because someone will challenge them ..warmachine worldwide is getting there (fun game btw)
Players newer are more intrigued by the competitive aspect of the game and will spend $$$$ on the high powered units..that's to be expected for a game not necessarily intended for major competitive circuits..some armies have always been better but it used to be more focused on the hobby rather than grinding your foe down.
Matt Ward is key in this as his books generally have more op units than others, but shouldnt the game be more about painting and modeling than steamrolling each others armies?
