I like the dirty look and the caution stripes on them, but the armor itself seems to lack something. I am not sure, I think I need to see another picture, more of the front of them to know what it is.

theyre armor as of the artwork is rather bland, that may be it, i went with a dark gunmetal spray, ill have to get a better shot, maybe a few more in the am i will get them up asap..thank you for the feedback

A couple thoughts:
1) I like the dark and dirty look. A few bright highlights randomly placed will help them to stand out.
2) You need a lighter base when they are done to provide some contrast.
3) Again I might base coat the army yellow them paint the black on gun metal over that since yellow is such a mother to get smooth.
4) I know a lot of guys here have had good results using the tech pens to help straighten line and clean up edges.
Good job so far Jeremy, lets see a whole squad!

i got a whole squad based the same, lighter may be better but i really like the dark gunmetal to keep them darker than all the bright silver grey knights out there...hopefully i finish the squad soon but ive been getting distracted by the cultists from dark vengeance with whom i have 40 of in order to use as the typical iron warrior meat shields, the kind they generally throw into the meat grinder.. im also going to throw in berzerkers similar to the khornate marines in storm of iron..gives my army a solid assault base, going to keep them at 8 for obvious reasons..i want to use the lord from the starter too but i may just wait to use some bits and build a warsmith similar to honsou with a metal arm and demon axe

I like the dark and gritty look too. The bland dark metal color is a problem of the color. If you want an idea to make this further pop, pain the base in a winter theme with some stark white and a lottle clump of dirt, or a very bleached desert look. The really light base will contrast well with the dirtier marine.

Just a thought, I know there is a color scheme here, but caution stripes on one leg/chest piece (or even a streak down the center of the helmet) would help to brighten the model up and provide some contrast.
I also want to echo some extreme highlights - where the metal plates join is the natural point, to show some pops of color to get a bit more depth out of it.
