I finished up my mangler squig conversion that I am running in my Da Boyz GT list next week. For those of you who don't know what a mangler squig is supposed to look like, here is a pic of what GW has on their site... Since the GW Failcast version runs around $57 and I didn't want to mess around with the possibility of a bad cast or have it suffer from the reported sagging issues, I decided to save myself some money to put towards some beer and a new Hell Drake. After a couple of weeks of drilling, pinning, green stuffing, and painting; here is the final product. Side View Front View Other side view Top View Overall it was a fun project. It took a little longer than I had planned but I think the overall concept works. The two squigs on the sides and the goblin in the back are supported by paperclip wire covered in flock and then model shrubbery to give the appearance that they are bouncing over brush and woods. Now I just need to finish up my trolls in time for next week.

While I like the GW model itself, I am cautious about dropping $57+ on finecast for a model that is only worth 65pts and has a short lifespan on the table. Now look at GW's Daemon Prince (@ $40 some odd dollars) and their Giant (@ $53 dollars). Both of these models are done in plastic and include lots of extra bits that I can incorporate into conversions. Sure the Giant and Daemon Prince may die just as easily on the table top but at least I feel that I am getting my money's worth for a solid product that looks great, has extra bits, and I know will be pretty free from blemishes and warping. Thanks Erich, the eyes and tongues were painted using the blood I spilled from drilling a hole in my thumb. However, I do blame my wife for that. As I was drilling a hole into the last squig my wife commented that the way I was holding it didn't look very safe. Sure enough, a few minutes go by and I am running up to find the med kit.

Awesome work. I had the same idea, and started on it before the GW version was released. Problem was that at the time, base size was unknown, so once the GW version was released, I realized my conversion was not on a big enough base. (I only had 2 squigs). So it has sat on my table along with the other one I was working up. I've recently decided to turn them into the center of a squig herd when I get back to work on them, which is likely not long.

Yup, I remember us discussing that back before Simcon a couple of years ago. That's where I got the inspiration for this model.
