So I'm planning out all the stuff I want to put into my Black Templars army model wise. I have a lot of ideas to make these guys as spiffy as all get go, but I have a few points of hesitation. The concern is that I might be confusing my opponent with the option I take so here are my questions:
1) Model X technically has a power sword. However, I want it to be a close combat weapon so I paint the blade with boltgun metal. Power weapons that are indeed power weapons have their blades painted bright blue. Good enough or do I need to go as far as to physically modify the weapon?
2) I don't have Sword Bretheren in my army but the GW models are shweet. Is it ok to paint them up and call them Initiates? Obviously not forgetting to let my opponent know exactly what is what. This applies to other models as well, like Helbrecht, the old Emperor's Champion Model, ect.
3) I want banners in my Crusade squads (Just because). There is no option for taking banners in a crusade squad. Is it still okay to put one in there just because it looks nifto?
I don't think any of this stuff should be a cause for concern, I just want to double check before I start building these guys.

I too love the look and feel of these guys, Im trying to get an initial list together before i buy too much.
Using sword breathern for your initiates is a great idea, kinda of wish you didnt think of it first. I hesitate to say this, but as long as they all are the same models i wouldnt have any problem. Im thinking this might be a little demanding because of the expense though.
As far as your other concerns, its all good.

Well I'm not planning on making whole squads out of the bretheren models, but I am going to pick up a box to add some flavor.
