Thank You
In light of the recent apocalypse game series I was hosting at Boldo’s, which seems to have been taken over by others, with no thanks to my contributions, and since this the Smack Talk section, here is a nice Thank You Rant. Since no one wanted to thank me, I figured I must be the one that owes thanks to you.
I would like to thank some of the players for turning what I had planned for a friendly game into a rules lawyer fight and puppy kicking contest using underhanded tactics to win at all costs. Even if it meant losing a friendship or two, it’s more important to win the game than have fun.
I would like to thank my team mate that staggered in hung-over and yelled at me and threatened me with physical violence when I greeted him with a friendly smile and donut holes during game setup.
I wanted to thank the other team for not allowing my team to talk about the game before setting up. I had only played one game prior and don’t have the rule book for apocalypse. Another team mate of mine had never even played or looked at the rules. It would have been nice to be able to explain to her how the game was actually played and why we kept giving her these white cards.
I thank the 2 or 3 opponents that all used the surgical strike (?) strategy before the game to kill all our HQs/Monstrous creatures before the game was even started. You sure showed us!
Thanks for stating that infiltration would work just like a normal game, but then when the time came to place infiltrators, telling us that we could not. Hey that player only asked 4 times about that rule. But if I was in your position, I would not want that unit charging me first turn either. Best to change the rules last minute and force her to place that unit in the back of the board.
A big thank you goes out for all the rule changes that were enacted during the game. It was nice to see rules that I had been playing by since the beginning of my warhammer days all of a sudden change. Only when it suited my opponents of course. And then instead of agreeing on a verdict and continuing the game, obscure passages had to be looked up in books like the Imperial Armor or the Apocalypse rulebook etc.
Thanks to those that forced me to stay in the game when I should have phased out. I was under phase out number by turn 2. Yup, I was out of the game come the start of turn 3, but others chose to force me to stay and play. So I got to spend turns 3, 4, 5, and 6 wandering around the board with my lord, 5 warriors and a monolith. That was enjoyable, instead of sitting back and watching the game, I had two players trying to utterly wipe my last 5 troops off the board while I had to play stay alive.
Thanks for the lunch! All players had agreed to bring $5 for lunch. Laura and I spent $15 bringing in boxes of donut holes and donuts for all the players. No one had problems eating that. But when lunch time came around I still hadn’t seen any money from the players. They decided to order pizza. Even though we provided breakfast, Laura and I were asked to also help provide lunch. Eh… ok….. We spent our money on breakfast so would need to use a credit card instead. I was told that was not do able nor was using the card at the store to get cash back. If we wanted to eat lunch we were told “There is an ATM across the Street.” Thanks guys. We just said we weren’t hungry and had to sit and watch everyone else eat lunch.
Thanks for the last turn! We all agreed to not start any more turns after 5:00. Our team finished our turn at 4:58. Instead of just calling it and wrapping up the game like I mentioned, people wanted to continue knowing full well that another turn would take a good hour to complete. But hey 4:59 isn’t 5:00 right? How silly of me to object, who cares if a player had to leave for a family function and we all agreed ahead of time.
I had stated when I started this Apocalypse series that I had planned to run a spring, summer, fall and winter game a few months apart to allow players to build and paint their armies and build up points. This was the first game and it seemed to go by quickly. But it looks like I will not have a chance to try and correct the issued faced this game in my next game. That seems to have been taken over by other players without my knowledge. Looks like I am not longer running the summer game. It was nice of them to talk things over with me, but then said players were pretty much trying to run my Spring Fling game anyways. Now they have just limited the players that can play by placing army race restrictions on the game. Oddly enough the armies listed are not ones owned by some of the newer players… so it looks like this will just be the Da Boyz clique apocalypse game, no new comers allowed.
Just saying thanks for the game!

Hey man, it sounds like you got the bad end of things, and I'm sorry that had to happen, really I am.
When I had to leave to see my parents about an important family issue, I distinctly remember shaking your hand and thanking you for the game. I made sure to thank everyone before I left. I also thanked everyone again in the apoc thread, and I will take this post to thank you again.
Since text limits your ability to show tone of voice, I will take a moment to say that I'm in no way being sarcastic. Seriously, I had fun, and thank you for helping me do that. I hope to return the favor at the end of the month to all who can attend Simcon.
Using the silence card before was kind of an eh? moment to me too, but it was only 5 minutes. Not a huge deal imo. I used the surgical raid because my one data sheet gave it to me.
The rest was pretty much other people/out of my hands. Regardless, the only thing I would like to add is if you've got beef with people, thats fine, but please don't blanket everyone. That's all.
And on a lighter note I just uploaded a new comic, go read #19 and have a smile. ;D

WELL I'M SORRY THINGS DIDN'T TURN OUT AS WELL AS YOU WOULD HAVE LIKED. MAY BE NEXT TIME TRY RUNNING A TOURNAMENT ELSE WHERE, THIS WAY YOU CAN RUN THINGS YOUR WAY. DOMINANT INDIVIDUALS OF DABOYZ ON THEIR HOME TURF CAN BE OVERWHELMING. NO SHOTS TAKEN HERE JUST HUMAN NATURE.
SINCE WE'RE ALMOST NEIGHBORS, I WILL INVITE YOU TO A MATCH AT MY HOUSE WHEN I GET A CHANCE. I ALSO HAVE A CHALLENGE FROM BLOODTHIRST THAT I'M TRYING TO FIT IN.
CHEER UP, NEED TO VENT TAKE A SHOT AT THE OLD DRAGON, THATS WHAT I'M HERE FOR.

Forgive me for being at the store a 7am to open it up for players despite my feeling sick and lack of sleep.
Forgive me for stepping in for somoene else that didnt want to play because of other players that were going to be present.
and C4 will back me up when I explain that -every- morning when he says "good morining sunshine" I reply "F#ck you" so you got the nice version of it. And on top of it I have apologized a few times for that comment but you cant get over it.
I didnt eat your donuts or pizza, I tried to fork money over but the ATM was broken.
Oh yeah and forgive me for trying to make your even fun and successful.

Will do. Ron. no one asked you to get absolutly trashed and hung over. Hanging out with your sister is fine. Not my fault you were up til 4 am drinking when you knew you had to be at the store in 3 hours. you could have easily gotten some one else to open for you if that was going to be an issue. You volenteered for it. You got drunk, came in to the store trashed and mouthed off to me when i did nothing wrong to you. Next time you want to push me around, yell at me, then threaten to beat my ass like you did to others the night before, i am not going to be so forgiving. I don't treat my friends that way.

No your right...no one blamed you for it. I did that on my accord. It was my sisters Birthday and im sure if you were in my position you would have gone out and celebrated the same as me.
I also made a commitment to you, your game and the people that showed up and despite my state I made good with my commitment. I was a little abrupt, I was just in a bar fight 6 hours before hand, I was running on no sleep and I was hung over. I dont blame anyone else but me for that. Im not placing blame on anyone but me.
I said one comment and now you wont let me live it down. I apologized for the comment and you still have a issue with me. Fine. I cannot obviously make things right here with you.
I didnt push you around, I didnt yell at you...I will reiterate for you
You Said to me...."Good morning sunshine" I said "you want to be next to get there @ss beat?"
Anyone else would have laughed at me an taken it in good spirits. You took it the worng way. IM SORRY for the 5th time!!

First off I PM'ed you. I know you are upset. You have chosen not to reply to me and would rather post your complaints publicly. Fair enough, then I will reply to you the way you have chosen to vent. I don't want you or Laura to be upset but I cannot control how you feel. I enjoy having you both around and playing the game with you sunday was no exception. That being said let's go to the list of complaints.
I did thank you for the game several times.
I believe I played fun and fairly, and I lost, as I do in most of my games. I am well aware that a fun afternoon for some players is kicking the crap out of other players but that is rarely my standard to measure fun. I didn't see this sunday but if you think that is what was going on you are entitled to your opinion. To me its about the people. I lost, but life will go on...
I believe Ron has apologized for this.
Yes, the "No talk" stratagem is kind of a thingy thing to do but it is part of the game. Believe me when we were setting up I vetoed the deep strike disruptor so that the game would be more fun. It wasn't like anyone was purposely trying to screw someone from what I saw.
I took an apocalypse formation that gave me a particular ability as did James. I didn't take it just to screw over anyone but because apocalypse is supposed to be played with that type of stuff. Yes it was abusive and I would limit it next time, really I had no idea it was that good but don't blame me for taking a formation I had posted on the board and given fair warning about. I was trying to have fun. James took the Masters of the Chapter which also came with it. We didn't metagame and take things that would abuse our friends.
The infiltration miscommunication could have been handled better. In all fairness it was allowed since I also had the same misunderstanding that your team did and I argued on your behalf.
I am not sure what rules change you are referring to.
I am sorry for forcing you to stay in the game. You came to play and I thought that you wanted to continue to play. I understand where you are coming from about your later turns. My army was pretty played out by then as well but it didn't matter I still had fun.
As for lunch, all you had to do is speak up and say what you just said. I would have been happy to throw in money for both you and Laura, and I would have made a case for you eating for free due to the donuts. I didn't mean to be rude and appreciated what you brought. All you had to do is say something but you chose not to. For the record I threw in money for Norton and Dacius, as well as working a deal with James. I would have been happy to help out but you said you werent hungry. Those are your words, not mine, and like I said I would have been happy to help out. In the grand scheme of life I would have been happy to throw another $10 in rather than risk losing a friendship over it.
The last turn could have been handled better, and the next time we should have clearer start and finish times. I agree with your point.
I like playing Apocalypse and would like to play more of that style of game. I also like the themed battles too. The limit imposed was to make a themed battle not to exclude anyone. As for the whole clique thing, you two are part of the group. Players, myslef included, get upset from time to time. Say your peace like you just did. As a group we have respect for that, and I do respect you for venting. Come next sunday show up, there are no hard feelings on my part, hopefully there are none on yours. I like everyone who shows up and plays. I enjoy the people that play, the game is just an afterthought.
Thank you for playing, hopefully we will see you around!

There is more to it than that Ron.
But thats not something i feel like getting into on the boards.
I had to do alot of shift swapping and asking for people to cover for me at work. i was supposeted to work that weekend of the game. In the end it felt like a wasted day for me. But lesson learned. I am sure the next big get together will go smoother. especially without me there.

Others have been conciliatory. I choose to be different Since no one wanted to thank me, I figured I must be the one that owes thanks to you. No! Thank you for ignoring the actual written thanks people did give. I guess you are not in the subset called “EVERYONE” and think you deserve a special private thanks. Thank you to everyone who played and made it a fun day at Boldo's! I had a blast, thanks to everyone for the massive beatdown. No! Thank you for organizing and “running” a game that you now say you don’t even own or know the rules to. BTW thank you for reading up on these rules in the weeks we had beforehand. Thank You for downloading the free information online including these asset cards like the “jammers”. Thank you for explaining the differences in the game mechanics in the weeks before the Game to the “team mate of mine had never even played or looked at the rules.“ Oh and Thank you for only implying the opponents who used them were these were bad and not the ones used by your team. Our bad for Playing the game. I thank the 2 or 3 opponents that all used the surgical strike (?) strategy before the game to kill all our HQs/Monstrous creatures before the game was even started. You sure showed us! No! Thank you for not bringing any Apocalypse units at all to an apocalypse game that you had weeks/months to prepare for. Then thank you for complaining about the people that brought apocalypse formations to an apocalypse game. (Egads who would think someone would do that!) Oh and Thank you for saying the 1 model out of 8 was crippling to the point that you needed to complain. i think by game end we had indeed killed 3 of them. Thanks for stating that infiltration would work just like a normal game, but then when the time came to place infiltrators, telling us that we could not. No! Thank you once again for reading these rules in the weeks ahead of time to the game YOU organized. Thank you for implying what I sad was untrue. And that infiltrators somehow set up differently. Infiltrators in fact set up the same way they always have. But your set up period CHOSEN BY YOU! Is limited to the amount that YOU Chose. Thanks for casting blame instead of reading the rules in the weeks you had to prepare for such things. A big thank you goes out for all the rule changes that were enacted during the game. It was nice to see rules that I had been playing by since the beginning of my warhammer days all of a sudden change. No! Thank you for ignoring us for the months you have been playing. I had two rules issues with the necrons. 1) You don’t get to move your models around when they get back up. (This is not a big surprise) 2) That only downed necrons within 6” if a like necron model get the WBB roll. Which has been discussed with you and even posed on our online FAQ You went to the DABOYZGT using these FAQs and rules so there is no surprise there. If you wanted a bigger get up zone you have Tomb spiders you can take. Thank You for implying we can all just assume things work the way we want if we plead ignorance. obscure passages had to be looked up in books like the Imperial Armor or the Apocalypse rulebook etc. Thank you for saying that actual rules in the rule books to an apocalypse game are obscure. Thank you again for reading them in the weeks you had ahead of time! Thanks to those that forced me to stay in the game when I should have phased out. I was under phase out number by turn 2. our bad for wanting to keep a friend included Thank You for wanting to Quit just because things were going bad for you. No! Thank you for knowing any time we pick may be arbitrary and clearly defining that the last turn would not START after 5:00 (not 4:30 not 4:40 not even 4:58 but 5:00) Thank You for knowing your actual words and decisions had the meaning that you actually said and agreed to. Thank you for planning ahead at how long the game would take and having a realistic thought that a 15,000 point game would not take all day. The Apocalypse book say this point scale will take between a Evening and a weekend to play. But you the organizer know that because you read these things in the book in the Weeks you had ahead of time. I had stated when I started this Apocalypse series… Wait another tanks for saying that You started this. Not that this was a group thing, or even started by the player who brought it all up in the first place. I wonder who first post ed on having a campaign of apocalypse games first? WOW! 60,000 points (30k per team) on the table wholley molly alot of models hit that field We are thinking about doing another one of these in the future, we will keep you posted. Was mega fun!! No wait there was something even earlier… Tommy and I are going to ge runnning/playing in a Huge Apocolypse game this weekend coming up. We plan on starting some time on Saturday and Ending sometime on sunday afternoon. This will be something we would leave set up. We will be using Boldos, I have already got permission from boldo to use the upstairs large room for this event. Play, watch or cheer. Come down and have fun!! Well it seems the first of the apocalypse series was started by Iron Warrior and I. Now they have just limited the players that can play by placing army race restrictions on the game. Oddly enough the armies listed are not ones owned by some of the newer players… so it looks like this will just be the Da Boyz clique apocalypse game, no new comers allowed. Oh I didn’t realize that there was an agreement that Necrons and Tyranids must be included. Its not like we have been saying since the beginning that we wanted a hard theme to these games as pooped to a general bring in. Oh wait we did… even before we organized the first of the series… Hello laides and gents, So theres this new apoc. supplement out for 40k and I hear this sucker C4 has to run an event becuase he won the right to do so. We want to theme the teams because this will be a themetic campaign as well as a narrative to go along. The idea of the campigh is to have fun and hopeully see NEW characters rise out of the battles with a name for themselves (Like ol' Labodon) Oh yeah and before I forget.. TERMINATORS BAD!!!!

Before this goes any further...All blame is to be placed on me. This is my fault. The root of this blame goes to me. So stop ranting on Garou. You dont know the truth of it...none of you do.
I want this post to end here with my post. No more tooling on Garou. leave him alone and if you need someone to blame, blame me becuase I am truly the one to blame for the negative atomosphere on sunday whether rightfully charged or not.
No more...it ends here! Im asking you all as a friend to stop this. I am pleading with you all...stop.
