I used to field my Empire Knights in units of 12 4x3 to get a +2 rank bonus. Now that 7th makes units have a 5-wide frontage to get a rank bonus, what is the best formation to field heavy Cav?
I field my Cold One Knights 5x2, but thats mostly to take advantage of the Fear-Causing nature of the CoK.
What size units have you folks been having luck with?

At DaBoys GT I ran 2 units of 10 w/full command. One of Silverhelms and one of Dragon Princes. The comp forced me to play it this way but after a few games I thought they worked excellent this way. I would have still played the DP at 10 strong, but in the past I had played the SH in units of 5/musician. Lots of forum "experts" argue the second rank is a waste because if you lose one you love the rank bonus, but I'm not panicking, and I very well could be outnumbering when I get there.
Boldo has gone a step further and has been playing a unit of 15 in his empire!
Since playing my DoW, the only cav I have painted was a unit of 5, and they have been shot off the table before being any use whatsoever. I seriously need to add more to this unit, both to prevent panic checks and to have a unit left on the table!

I think that units have also gotten bigger in the new edition so seeing 25 is no longer a rarity. This I might suggest 12 in 6x2 with the war banner. It preserves size and with a few kills should be larger.

It's strange but i think GW may have gotten this one little thing right. The inclusion of making 5 wide ranks really does seem to have increased the sizes of units i see fielded.
My rats used to be run in either 25 or 30 man blocks (ok, 20 for the slaves, d**n where am i going to get my hands on more metal slaves?) and back in the day my 30 man unit was considered a large unit. But now i regularly see 30 man units, even from elves.
Note this is not just in our group but often in online forums, the general unit size has increased. so no, i think the 6 wide knight unit may be feasible as well.
