Jay - I usually play all kinds of crazy $%^&, and would probably play better if I just settled in on some units and get used to their tactics. Probably the worst part about the DoW is the characters dont have any (character). You are regulated to the common magic item list and cant build any really cool character combos. Good Stuff: Ogres - both bog standard ravening hordes (cheap) and any of the Ogre Kingdoms DoW units. I LOVE Maneaters in a DoW army. Ask Norton about Maneaters.... Duellists - with pistols. Skirmishers took a hit being able to be marchblocked in the new rules, but these guys still remove light stuff with ease. Truthsayer/Dark Emmisary - these guys are now DoW units from the old worldwide campaign, probably the last time you played WHF! Cant argue with a L3/4 mage for a hero and a rare slot. I like the Truthsayer better, more useful spells. Pikes - Lots of DoW players are on the fence on these, but Boldo & I only have good things to say about them. Halflings - ballistic skill 4 shots for 60pts. Heavy and light cav - human standard but really cheap points wise. There's a ton of good stuff, the trick is getting it all to work together! Bad stuff for the most part, Regiments of Renown Rugluds armored orcs: combat unit paying through the nose for move-or-shoot missile weapons. Animosity on these guys can kill your own stuff. Cursed Co: 300pts, 10 skeletons? Just too expensive for what you get, though ones that are a steal are: Volands Venators Long Drongs slayer pirates Lumpin Croops fighting cocks The mandatory paymaster & rules are a bit rough. The whole army takes a panic check if he dies. DoW is the only army that still this now since 5th ed. Throw something together and post it so I can tear it up for ya...
