can a wizard take enchanted items and/or a magic weapon? i know in 6th ed it was not the case but i don;t have my 7th ed rulebook with me and i think it might have changed....

Yes - I'm pretty sure they could in 6th Ed too
Although not many wizards would shell out the points for a Magic Weapon - except maybe a Vampire or Tzeentch Character
Edit: On Second thought I took the the Web of Skulls (the 2d6 str 3 hits one) on my Lvl 4 Sorceress a few times - seemed to work out okay

Wizards can take all magic items unless the mundane version is not available to them (usually armor, or weapons like great weapons or bows).

Actually, its only armor and shields. All magical weapons are open to wizards. My personal favorite combi for a DE High Sorceress is the following: High Sorceress - lvl 4, Darkstar Cloak, Seal of Ghrond, Dispel Scroll, Lifetaker Nothing like a chick with a crossbow .
