In another thread Alex has said that he is going to be looking at comp again and may have a different starting approach to it. Although I'm not a big fan of checklist comp, (or comp at all for that matter), I thought that it would be better to get in on the ground floor and throw this system out there.
I like the simplicity of it and I think that it would work fine to curb the lists that most people don't like, while allowing quite a bit of freedom in creating themed lists as well as lists that are still "hard".
It is one of the danish comp systems that I nicked from the Warhammer Forum, not sure if it is the current one or not.
Restrictions
*No special or named characters.
*No DOW machines in non DOW armies
*No duplicate rare choices
*No triplicate special choices
*Max of 3 of the same core choice, with the exception of ranked, non missile infantry
Max 9PD/10DD usable
Basically you can use up to 9 PD in a magic phase. Bound spells each count as 1 PD. Any bonus or free PD, such as power stones, 2nd gen slann dice, etc. count as PD.
For Tomb Kings each dice counts as 1 PD and the casket counts as 2. You may not choose to roll fewer dice for an incantation. (example a liche priest must roll both dice fro his incantation). However you may skip incantations. The basic 2 PD for TK only count if they are used to dispel remains in play spells.
For DD, the first dispel scroll in the army counts as 1 DD for every phase, and each dispel scroll past the first counts as 2 DD for every phase, whether you use them or not.
Race specific
Max 3 ratling guns
Max 3 chariots (or units of chariots)
Max 6 fanatics
A treeman ancient counts as a treeman
Thats the whole thing. There are some things that I think are questionable, like the 10DD, but I don't think that it is that big of a deal, cause 10DD is fairly difficult to get to, unless one maxes out on scrolls. Plus, with the other side only able to use 9PD a turn, most people should scale their magic defense down.
Anyways, feel free to comment or ignore as you wish.
