This is based off an idea I saw someone post on Warseer.
The list is incomplete because I don't have all the army books. I am also a newbie, so any units that you believe need to be added or moved to any of the categories.
Good, bad, ugly comp system
This comp system is built with the assumption that certain units are overpowered for the points they cost and certain units are underpowered for their points.
It is also built on the assumption that balanced units taken in multiples start to become unbalanced.
Another assumption is that EVERY army should be able to score perfect comp.
Another assumption is that variety makes for a more fun list to play and play against.
The last assumption is that the more units out there, the more interesting , and thus fun, the game is. Therefore unit size plays no part in this comp system.
Terminology:
Ugly: Things that are significantly overpowered for their point cost.
Good: Things that are relatively balanced for their point cost.
Bad: Things that are underpowered for their points.
Mechanics:
You start with 5 points as your comp score. Thus any penalties that you take are severe, accounting for 20% of your comp score.
Bad things can be taken in any amount with no penalty.
Each Good item or slot taken by a Good unit after the first is a -1 penalty.
Each Ugly item or each slot taken by an Ugly unit is a -1 penalty.
Units are automatically good.
Unit/character upgrades are automatically bad
Magic items are automatically good.
Examples:
A 2nd Gen Slann:
A Slann is, by default, a ‘good’ unit. No penalty is normally taken for taking a single good unit. However, a 2nd Generation Slann takes up 3 slots, so you take a 2 point penalty to your comp score for having 2 extra slots taken by a Good unit.
3 Spear Chuckas:
Spear Chuckas are by default Good units and are 2 for 1 slots. 3 Spear Chuckas use up 2 slots, so there is a 1 point penalty to the comp score for taking an extra slot with a Good unit.
