The Baltimore one: Are these the Games days? The glorified RTTs? or are they actual GT's?
I see a 3 round tounrament, I see some where boards are premade as well as the armies for you to play? And I see a vetran tournament of 4 rounds and an open gaming.
Ive never been to a games day before. Is this what you plan on attending? And what would you be particpating in?

This is the same link that gets you the rules for the tourney at games day so without any further conformation from Sang I'd say its just Games Day and not a Grand tourney as in years past.

Ron, I was wrong.
If you read page two of the GT packet it says there are 5 rounds held both saturday and sunday and even list times. Interesting to note is sportmanship is down to a pass/fail, got that all you fockers!!!! LOL Also the pub quiz looks like it rears its ugly head as well.

Just thought I'd point out that there is a 50% chance that you play omega level or gamma level... with no chance at alpha level.

Thats cool. Alpha levels leaves out alot of the strategy of the game. It also denies some armies skills even if they paid for them like infitrate/deep strike. Also note, 13th company is not a valid list at the GT

I have to disagree about alpha level missions.
i think often they have more strategy.
all omega and gamma missions include victory points, and althogh usually their are bonus points the real goal is the same (kill the opponent mindlessly and get points) sone time there a re some light bonuses on maneuver to strategic points.
Alpha missions however usually are won regardless of your kill total, which i think is a harder objective.
Take Cleanse for example actually securing table quarters is far harder and strategic than Kill the enemy.
On the subject of i paid points for that skill...
You did this knowing that the mission does not always allow it. Some armies pay extra points to have guys that get to use the rule even when the mission does not allow. (Example deep striking deathwatch, imperial termies, grey knights, demon hosts, some necrons?? and swooping hawks and scourges)
If every mission allows the rules these models are to expencive paying for a better version of the ability that they dont get to use "better"
that being said i tend to favor a mix of missions and in a 5 round tourney i think i would do 1 alpha 2 gamma and 2 omega (but thats just my $0.02)

It appears this is the rules packet for the Chicago games day - which is having a GT. It looks like the other games days are having Rogue Trader tournaments. Hopefully the other "divisions" of the US GW will decide to hold GT's at other times in the year. Until then, it looks like only the one GT in Chicago.
