make the thane a BSB combine the miner units for a special spot for some hammerers and try and get warriors in bigger groups like 20, possibly more artillery?

Hey, welcome to the boards!
Not a bad list for basics, but by moving a few things around and adding a few runes you should have a much more playable army.
I Assume what you have listed is what you own?
Your warrior units really should be bigger, 20 models minimum, preferably 25 (always 5 models wide). This is so you can claim full rank bonuses for combat resolution (+3), if you get a few units to 25 the units can take 6 wounds before losing this bonus. Not to mention being able to outnumber the opponent also for an additional +1. Also, outnumbering fear causers (there alot of them lately) saves you from autobreaking if you lose a round of combat to them.
Consider buying shields for your great weapon armed dwarfs. Having the option of 3+ save has it merits.
Command is rarely needed for missile troops. That said, of you go for a big unit like your quarrelers, command can come in handy to dissuade light troops from attacking, not to mention the unit can be a "makeshift" combat unit if needed when things go bad.
Miners can be fun, but you may find them unreliable for the points spent on them. Lose the unit of 8, either combine them with the other miner unit or use the points save to add to the warrior units.
As Dwarfpower suggests, making the thane a battle standard bearer is a solid idea, dwarfs should never go to battle without one. And as unfortunate as it is, Hammerers are pretty much the best buy for your special troop choices. Point & ability wise, nothing compares. Always buy them shields, you will use HW & shield much more often then their GWs.
I'm not sure if you are local, but stop on down to Boldo's on thursday evenings weekly. Its Warhammer night and you can always get in a friendly game not to mention advice!
