I wouldn't mind seeing 2000 points for 40k. The points breakdown looks good. Shaun's ideas for scoring sound right on target to me.

Last thursday everyone wanted battle to be equal to everything else. I objected but then decided to run a compromise to see what people thought. I prefer battle being less but that is why I posted.

I think those numbers look good. If you win the most battle points you should have a great shot at winning the tourney. There is still a certain level of painting that will need to be done to win and also sportsmanship.
Looks good to me Alex.

I'd like to see a "Commandos" scenario similar to the old "bomb the objective" mission in the 3rd edition BBB.
Something like one objective in center, each player nominates one unit in the army from the elites or fast attack section, that unit must get to and stay in B2B with the objective for one turn after which they've successfully planted a charge. +VPs for destroying opposing "commando" squad, and +VPs for successful bombing of the objective. The Commando squad must not have jump or jet packs, but may have a dedicated transport.
As long as you make the mission known, it will force people to bring at least one elites/fast unit capable of participating effectively in this mission...
Sound balanced? Like the idea? Does it screw anyone too bad if having prior knowledge of the mission?

I agree with Shaun on his points. I think the most successful GT platform we ever went to had the self scoring system that shaun had mentioned. A few minor adjustments that made great additions to previous tourneys:
1) grading sportsmanship and composition between players at the judges table after the game (prevents the whole "i gave you a 5, what did you give me?"
2) displaying of armies at set times - either the old Toronto set time slot or standard GT display after each game set up
3) preposted (on website or in con package) set missions already printed before tourney - level selected and announced at time of game
Side note, looks like a bunch of the guys from Waltham (DorkaMorka guys) will be interested in coming out. Probably can count on 10+ guys from the Boston area.
Shaun, give a shout if you are going to need help the day of or anytime before.

Thanks hobin. Still have to work out how many people we will need. I guess that will depend on the tournout. We may want to limit the number of participants due to board/terrain restraints. We;ll work out the details soon.

SHAUN: GIVE ME A DESCRIPTION OF THE TERRAIN TYPES YOUR PLANNING ON FOR THE TABLES AND I'LL SORT THROUGH THE DUMPSTERS TO SEE WHAT I CAN FIND. I CAN DESIGN STUFF IN MY HEAD AS I SEARCH, "IT'S WHAT I DO". IF YOU NOT SURE, I CAN BRING SOME STUFF I ALREADY COLLECTED TO GIVE YOU SOME IDEAS. SEE YA THURSDAY NIGHT, MY SON WILL BE ATTENDING!

Alex or Shaun, Have you look into advertising on this site. It would be nice to have New York state added to it. I know it is only fantasy, but anything could help. How are we going to advertise the Da Boyz GT (to get people to come) www.indygt.com/

I was hoping to get the details completed by the end of march and then I was planning on advertising on that site. I thought it might draw some people and does get a lot of traffic but I also wanted to keep GW in the loop as they would also be useful for advertising. The problem is I do not know where else to go. We need ot get the word out and do so in March and keep hitting it. As inadequete as I am for advertising for fantasy I am much worse for 40k I do not even know where to start. This is a huge problem which needs to be discussed more.

We could ask the local GW store here in Syracuse if we can put up a flyer.
Might be able to put up something in "Altered States" (the local hobby store here).
Just trying to help I don't know much about getting tourneys advertised.

Who is our leader? Are we going to get together and plan this out? There are definitely somethings we should get assigned to people.
1.) Website 2.) Table Construction 3.) Advertising 4.) Tournament Format 5.) Setup Hotel Rates 6.) Etc.
These are just some ideas and hope we atart having meetings maybe once\month to make sure we stay on task.

It seems I talk about this on Thursday night and I will try to make it into the store in the late afternnon on Sunday to make sure I talk to all the boyz. I am looking for people to sign up to all the things mentioned. I am working on a web site and if someone wants to make it cooler than I do they are welcome to it. Here are the things which we will not be able to change. Tables will have to boards under them. Price of the event is $30 of which we will get $10 per person for prizes and costs (boards) Date is October 14-15 Entry cut off number is going to be around 80 total. I think 50-60 for 40K and 20-30 for fantasy. RIT does not want me to run this so there needs to be anouther name as the person in charge. The 4-5 people runnign the event will get in for free.
Tournament will end by 3ish on Sunday.
Things I think we will do. 5 rounds but could be 6 Scoring 120 battle 50 for painting, 50 for sportsmanship, 50 for comp. Prizes will be plagues and I think painted battalion box set for overall. If we give a battalion box set as it is for the Boyz I think it should be Orc (ork) boxes. I alos like Chris' idea for 40k comp and the comp checklist for fantasy. Boards should be make with a particular planet in mind or with a part of the fanatasy world in mind so we can name not number the boards.
Next order of business in my mind is to finish the web page and start organizing the making of boards. We also need to start a sign up for trophies and painting.
Please start volunteering for things on line. Also let me know if people object to any of the things I think we will do.
Alex
