We are running the Rochester Warhammer championship at Simcon. It will be a fantasy tournament on Saturday March 28 and a team 40k tournament on Sunday.
The Fantasy tournament will start at 11am and is 1900 pts. We will have a comp clecklist shortly and as you all know the point total does not allow a lord and only one rare. The enterance fee is only the cost of Simcon plus $5 for both tournaments.

I would be more inclined to play in the fantasy tournement if it also was a team tournament.
blah blah blah it doesnt work shenanagins, yes it does work you and your team mate just have to think about what to take.
Some of us main stream 40k players dont have thousands of thousands of fantasy (or any for that matter) to make a full army. It would be easier for us to borrow or make smaller lists with a partner.
Just a thought and throwing it out there, you may get a better turn out from the 40k side to the fantasy side if you made this a team thing too. And it would be a nice weekend theme. I would be more inclined to go to both if this were the case.

Interesting idea, IW. I didnt know the 40K was a team tourney.
We actually had a discussion about how to do the next WHF tournament and thought the lower point total would be an interesting change up from the norm. No lord level characters, only 3 special, and 1 rare choice. No uber-killy characters, but you still might see a big scary monster or two....

Strangely enough, this point total creates slightly bigger armies by not having a Lord or the additional special and rare to suck up points.
Not that thats a bad thing.....

The format of two people come with two different armies and plan on playing together is stupidly broken in fantasy. Some armies combine really well like empire hockland longrifles and vampire magic. The problem of comp is compounded many times by this and random pairings of the players only helps a little. Sure it sounds like fun but it just leads to bad games. Now in 40k it may be fine but then again what will john adams find?

The same can be said about the 40k side but im sure players will persevere through it and attempt to have a good time. I thought the same could have been done with fantasy. Adepticon has put out a nice spread sheet with theme, sportsmanship and comp that helps alleviate the issues you are talking about. Also at least with the 40k tournament you could pre-make your teams. This could help with the random pairing. Also theme is upheld in this where you couldn't have Chaos fighting with the Imperium so if the same was up help on the fantasy side you wouldn't have the broken scenario you mentioned. Nothing is perfect however. I guess I will not be participating in the fantasy part of it as there is little incentive to do so and entirely way to much to do a complete 1900pt army in so little time. Have fun storming the castle. Just an fyi here is how adepticon does thier Fantasy Team tournaments. www.adepticon.org/09rules/09fantteam.html

Is the comp more specificly spelled out in the 40k side as the fantasy still just says judges will score. It is also 25 out of 124 and battle is 75. In a very large tournament this will work but with 12 teams the comp will be irreleveant. Armies can also get 10 points for a good theme which means comp is only 15pts. I guess I am just more paranoid than you guys as I see team is just more problems not less for comp.

The cost for the simcon tournaments will be $15 for either or both days. One cost up to two tournaments. I will have prizes for each day so I hope to see everyone there.

What does the attendance look like for this one? 10+? 30+? 50+?
Also, what kind of prize support is there?

I had mistakenly read the 40k thing on Simcon and freaked. Teams in fantasy? Dear gods....
As it stands, I'm bringing 3 players, Myself with woodelves, my beastman player, and my Brettonian player.
Thanks for shooting down the team idea....
Also, if anyone would like to play fantasy on sunday, I'm sure one of the 3 of us would play you.
