So for the GT I plan on doing a blog for an army as sort of a promo thing for the commission painting. I wanted to just take something that would be fun, original and had some interesting modeling opportunities. I also didn't want to take something that there already is a lot of, like not taking the gazillionth Black Templars army etc.
I guess the only thing that would limit me would be: REALLY expensive armies to buy, (my aim is cost between $350-$500) An army that is just awful, that has no realistic competitive chance at winning a casual game
I'm open to unique chapters, chaos legions, guard companies, eldar Craftworlds, everything! Color scheme is not a hinderance (I'm not afraid of yellow!) Any suggestions?
Also is sponsors options still available?
thanks, Adriel

I think a cool army to do would be thousand sons. I think the models are nice, and could look great with you painting them, and i think that you could throw together a daemon prince and termis and convert the hell out of them to make them look tzeentchy.
Either that or a true black legion army. That would allow you to paint a whole variety of things including all four cults of chaos.

You almost have to go with your strengths. Daemon army always looks good on a table, or maybe a deathwing. Chaos is always a good choice. I would stay away from marines and necrons.
You want something to be eye catching. I plan on there being 50 + people there so you can so off you new painting service.
I would not do a pink army since I already know there is going to another pink army there.

You might want to look a sister's priest army. Can be low model count and funky unit's i.e. arco-flag, repentia, and pentitent engine's.

Deathwing! Awesome! Is it still legal? Can you take Belial in 1850pts? i don't have the DA codex so I'm not sure. But given I tried it out in 3rd ed. I'd love to revive the concept!
here is a rough list I made from points totals I found on the GW site:
HQ Belial-185pts
Librarian/Chappy~145pts
Elites Dread~160pts Dread~160pts
Troops 1 DW squad w/assault cannon and chainfist-250pts 1 DW squad w/assault cannon and chainfist-250pts 1 DW squad w/assault cannon and chainfist-250pts 1 DW squad w/ Lighting Claws-215pts 1 DW Squad w/ T-Hammers and Cyclone-235pts
-1850pts

While Deathwing is a good choice ( especially if you already have the models! ) I think there are better choices to showcase your talent.
1) Eldar with various aspect warriors and Harlies.
2) A varied Deamon army.
3) I do like the radical Witchhunter list as well.
I think that a true Deathwing army ( bleached bone, etc) looks good but not great.
Another idea is to reclaim an army. Buy a used poorly painted army from Ebay or someone local who is selling it ( or a person who would commission you to repaint his army!) Strip it down, rebuild and replace what you need to, and take alot of before and after pictures. This is a great way to show your abilities!

That's also a great idea! (prowling ebay as we speak!)
a sisters army would be a lot of fun but I have to direct order alot of their stuff too. are there any good conversions for a sisters army anyone knows about? Eldar would be great too, with a lot of bright colors and little gems and bits, can you still do and all aspect army? Daemons caught my eye in the beginning but with the lack of shooting, and already having experience with a multi-god army I turned away, but plastic 'letters, daemonettes, and and a big Greater daemon centerpiece such are tempting.

daemons are a great option to show off painting!
-flamers are great looking models, and with a nice paint job, they could really stand out
-being chaos, its just asking for conversions all over the place
-soul grinders are a great centerpiece that looks amazing and stands out
I think if you want to show off conversion skill, chaos by far is the way to go. if you are trying to show off more of your painting skill, eldar is definately the best option. the harlequins are arguably the most detailed models made by GW. on top of that, the vehicles and walkers are just asking for freehand.
good luck!

What god match ups are competitive but not broken? Also why not do Eldar being killed by daemons? that way I can do both converting and painting!
I'm, still open to all kinds of suggestions! Anything crazy?
Maybe I should do a vote?
