I sent out a few messages to the people who purchased the Cities of Death Building sets for the upcoming tourney. I am about to start putting my set together and I was wondering what we as a group would like to do about basing them, etc. The questions I have are as follows:
1) Should we have the buildings free standing or attached to a base? They seem rigid and sturdy enough to go either way, what are your thoughts?
2) If we base them, what should we do the bases like? GW did a fairly nice job using ground up sprues as rubble. Check it out in the new Black Gobbo.
3) Any thoughts on how we should paint the buildings and their bases? I would like to see some sort of continuity throughout and would not mind if a pallet of colors and/or a painting scheme was defined by someone like Courtney.
4) What size are we looking for when we assemble these sprues. We could make a few mega buildings or several smaller ones. While the huge buildings look great, I would opt for more smaller ones, between 2 to 3 stories. I just think they are more playable. What are your thoughts as a group?
Thanks for the anticipated input!

My opinions
1) Bases. They look nicer and are more playable. You can tell which guys are in the building that way
2) I wouls say base them like my Necrons, maybe some grass.
3) The buildings should be painted however you want. After all, you bought them, but it might look nice all together
4) yeah 2-3 stories.

1. Based 2. i like the ground rubble/stones effect, i'd opt for greyscales... 3. How about fairly large buildings with two stories max, maybe small third stories...

1. Should we have the buildings free standing or attached to a base? They seem rigid and sturdy enough to go either way, what are your thoughts?
Answer: I think will want to attach them to a base. I think you can get more bang for your buck
2) If we base them, what should we do the bases like? GW did a fairly nice job using ground up sprues as rubble. Check it out in the new Black Gobbo.
Answer: I like what GW did. do bad we do not have a grinder like that.
3) Any thoughts on how we should paint the buildings and their bases? I would like to see some sort of continuity throughout and would not mind if a pallet of colors and/or a painting scheme was defined by someone like Courtney.
Answer: What ever is the easiest. Grey, Green, blue dry brush. Maybe Shaun can pick a good dry brush color, or maybe we can dip them (you know the Kemp style).
4) What size are we looking for when we assemble these sprues. We could make a few mega buildings or several smaller ones. While the huge buildings look great, I would opt for more smaller ones, between 2 to 3 stories. I just think they are more playable. What are your thoughts as a group?
Answer: Maybe one big and several small buildings. i thinking on getting more bang for the buck.

I like what GW did. do bad we do not have a grinder like that. The whole meat grinder thing is not out of the realm of possibilities if you like that effect. I have seen these items periodically at the Avon flea market and could pick up one fairly cheap.

if we want to do the meat grinder, i can probably dig one up or e-bay something. we would need a ton of old sprues though. and if anyone has any old scrap bits to throw in the mix i think we could do up a lot of really nice looking rubble for the new building sets.

I'M PUTTING EVERYTHING I CAN ON BASES, THIS WAY MORE MODELS CAN BE PUT IN COVER WITHOUT FALLING OVER, AND THEY'RE MORE STABLE. I ALSO WANT TO CUT DOWN ON WEATHER SOMETHING IS IN COVER OR NOT, AND LINE OF SIGHT ISSUES. I HAD 8 CHIPPED MODELS FROM THE COYOTE'S DEN LAST TOURNEY, AND THEY WERE BRAND NEW. PHIL'S ZOANTHROPES WERE BOTH CHIPPED JUST IN OUR GAME, NOT COOL, HE JUST FINISHED PAINTING THEM. YOU GUYS WORK TO HARD ON PAINTING TO PUT UP WITH THAT! THAT'S MY PLAN,CIAO!

Technical speaking all paints adhere to ASTM D 16 standards
Technical Data 1. Flat refers to a lusterless or matte finish with a gloss range below 15 when measured at an 85-degree meter. 2. Eggshell refers to low-sheen finish with a gloss range between 20 and 35 when measured at a 60-degree meter. 3. Semigloss refers to medium-sheen finish with a gloss range between 35 and 70 when measured at a 60-degree meter. 4. Full gloss refers to high-sheen finish with a gloss range more than 70 when measured at a 60-degree meter.
Oh I found a meat grinder. It actually works. It just going to take a lot of time to grind into small pieces. if anyone wants to borrow it let me know. Or i can bring it to the store.
