As I am taking DH and the new imperial armor lets grey knights dreadnoughts buy drop pods, I was thinking of using the imperial armor rules for the GK dread in the GT... Would this be allowed?

Jay will have final say over this but my understanding is that Imperial Armor rules are not being allowed in the tournament. You can use Forgeworld models to represent normal codex units but you cannot use any special Imperial Armor rules.

if you don't care about comp score, here's what you do.
take a cheap codex SM HQ.. like a chaplain.
take 2 basic scout squads with sniper rifles to hold objectives.
then you can take 2 squads of grey knights in power armor, 2 squads in terminator armor (1 as an HQ, 1 as elite), and dreadnoughts with drop pods.
