I believe we have access to 2 rooms since the fantasy guy ( sorry I forgot his name) works for Mariott and we get greatly discounted rooms through him. We were planning on leaving sometime friday evening, last time it was around 5pm, that way we get in Toronto and get settled the night before the tourney. Ask Alex and Shaun for more details, but this is what I remember doing.

Got my ticket yesterday. I love how there is no number on it. You would think they would serialize the tickets they send out. Oh well.

Dont worry Mike they will know your name, etc when we check in. Hey Boldo, Shaun, etc, did anyone realize it is being held at the International Centre near the airport this year?

How else would they hide the fact that only 25 players are showing up? I hope that guys have a better experience that we did in Vancouver last weekend - the Tourney ended up being a farce, with a lot of us vowing not to play next season unless major changes occur to the scoring system (esp the judges selection process for "best" painted)

Jason, please elaborate on the scoring system problems. It looks the same as the last few tourneys have been, with my only major problem being with the players that routinely lowball their opponents. From talking with several of the guys here as well as consulting there plus / minus scoring, I think I have a stategy worked out. If I happen to play one of the ones who tend to never give out fair scores, I will confront them when I fill out my sheet and explain basically they can refuse show me the scores they give me and in turn receive striaght zeros from me, or they can rate me fairly and prove it by showing me, and it turn I will do the same. Sure I would love to win or place highly but what I really want is fairness. I have been chipmunked several times now, and this year I will not let it happen even if it costs me a higher place in the tournament. Canada's scoring is not perfect but it still is better that the past Chicago GT where soft score were basically even and it all came down to battle points. Bottom line though, a weekend of wargaming is still better than most anything else I can think of!

I did find the board and overall I am not suprized. The current group of game developers at GW seem to favor the WAC army list. Overall I do think that the scoring system in use has more right about it that wrong, but there are issues. I felt that the group judging last years painting at Toronto had a bit to be desired, and I am sue Courtney would more than agree. The current trend seems to center around taking an average painted army and build it so that it is a WAC army. Be a decent sport, etc and come home with the prize. Comp and cheesiness doesnt seem to be a factor in judging sadly.

So are we all set on rooms? Call me a nervous person, but I just want to make sure we have them reserved. I know that someone is getting them that works at the Marriot, but I have not been at Boldo's in a couple weeks and will not be there this week. Someone post and make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I just contacted Alex. He is fairly certain that Ryan has both rooms booked and confirmed since he works for the Marriott. He is going to make certain and post here. As for driving, I was planning on leaving early in the afternoon with both Alex and Ryan so I can get there at a reasonable hour and relax. I have talked with Shaun who plans on working the day and leaving at night after seeing his son and wife. I kind of thought you might be in the same boat as well, and that you and Shaun would ride up together. Call me if you have any questions I can help with! -Doug
