Okay here are the tentative specs for a league at Boldo's
There is a bit of a problem with playing Thursday as it includes Christmas and New Years Eve. I would think Tuesday might be a better day for the league. I would like to play for 6 weeks and then have a playoff. I would like to start the second week of December.
Players should call or arrive by 6:45 Pairings will be made each week and then players may play up to 2 games a week. Only 8 games may be scored. Each week the mission will be anounced that evening but comp requirements will be posted. A win is worth 3 pts, a tie is worth 2 pts and a loss is worth 1 pt.
Week 1 1500pts only 3 total of HQ elite, Heavy, or fast attack Week 2 1600pts no more than 150pts of unit options, upgrades, or wargear. Week 3 1650pts Only 4 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack and no more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear. Week 4 1750 pts Only 4 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack and no more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear. Week 5 1850pts Play what ever you want Week 6 200pts Only 4 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack. No more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear. Only 4 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack and no more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear.
What do people think?

I'm assuming you mean 2000pts for week 6, not 200pts.
Unfortunately, a shift to tuesday likely rules me out. But then again, I was pretty tenative anyway since things are a bit crazy for me right now.

hell, with restrictions to just troops mostly I might just go with grey knights... the knights are the best troops ever!

I can probably play in this as well. I'll know more closer to the start.

I would be interested as well.
Are we going to be scoring for painted? Debating playing an existing vs new army.

I'd just like to point out that I do not believe the force organization and options restrictions will not lead to the desired effect. Some codexes will be virtually crippled while others will be mostly unaffected.
And since dedicated transports are listed on the options section of many armies, I just wanted to check and see if they count against these limits?
I'll be at boldos tonight to explain what I mean by this. I'll be in for the league either way, I just want my concerns to be known ahead of time.

ya i think orvilles right... the restrictions are way too broad to be fair for every codex... depending on how the transport thing works out, armies like guard will be stuck playing a horde of gear-less guardsmen while marine players will be getting free or very cheap upgrades on already well-armed troops...
just saying i know why the restrictions are how they are, just dont think its the way to do it...

I checked over the last Space Wolf list I made, and was suprised to discover that 526 points in a 2000 point list were options and upgrades to units. That does not even include the 105 base points spent on rhinos in the list.
After talking with Boldo, the idea behind the comp restrictions are to encourage players to take lists outside of what they normally would. Think of a low option list as a challenge rather than a restriction.
That said, there are some units that must take options. In the case of those units, I would suggest that whatever the minimum legal option cost for the unit to be fielded be exempted from the calcualtion for options. It's possible that this should not apply to all units. For example. I would expect it to apply to units like termigants or a tau hammerhead. But then I would not expect this to apply to long fangs even though they are required to take heavy weapons.

It will be challenging taking a list with a limit on options, and it could prove to be skewed, but if we can figure out a way to make it fair for all armies, I think it's a fun idea.

After talking to Jeremy I have decided that I need to make some changes to the league restriction. I am planning on judging painting but only on one week and I am not telling you what week that is. But it is only for a single prize so no big deal.
Week 1 1500pts only 3 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack Week 2 1600pts no more than 150pts of unit options, upgrades, or wargear. Week 3 1650pts No duplicates from HQ, Heavy, elite or Fast attack until you have one choice from each. Week 4 1750 pts No duplicates of units where a duplicate unit is any uni tof the same name, regardless of size, with the same wargear and options, other than changes to the squad leader (necrons may take any number of duplicate troops). Week 5 1850pts Play what ever you want Week 6 200pts No duplicates of troops where a duplicate unit is any unit of the same name, regardless of size, with the same wargear and options, other than changes to the squad leader (necrons may take any number of duplicate troops). No more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear.
If anyone else has better comp ideas I can understand please let me know.

Personally, I think this new set up looks a lot better. It still has a few weeks that could be skewed, but that is sort of the challenge of this. Having only a few weeks with the upgrade restrictions makes it less likely to control the whole event. I definitely like the "Ho duplicate Unit" idea. That should prove to be very interesting.
Wish I could play too. Maybe next time.

Here are the dates and the restrictions for the Holiday league
December 8: 1500 pts only 3 total of HQ, elite, Heavy, or fast attack December 15: 1600 pts no more than 150pts of unit options, upgrades, or wargear. December 22: 1650 pts No duplicates from HQ, Heavy, elite or Fast attack until you have one choice from each. December 29: 1750 pts No duplicates of units where a duplicate unit is any uni tof the same name, regardless of size, with the same wargear and options, other than changes to the squad leader (necrons may take any number of duplicate troops). January 5: 1850 pts Play what ever you want January 12: 2000 pts No duplicates of troops where a duplicate unit is any unit of the same name, regardless of size, with the same wargear and options, other than changes to the squad leader (necrons may take any number of duplicate troops). No more than 200pts of options upgrades or war gear.
Top 4 will play off on January 19 and the winners on January 26.
I will judge painting on two different weeks and we will have prizes for regular season best record, overall winner, second place, and best painted. If we have a lot of players we will have more prizes.
Cost is $20 but all players who play on all 6 weeks will get $10 back and the rest all goes to a prize fund.
I hope people enjoy this.

i'm building a new army... would it be alright if I use unpainted models, as long as I make progress each week towards getting it fully painted by the end? Or will that just trash my painting scores.

Do transports count towards the restrictions on unit upgrades?
