Here is the dilemma. There is talk of when and how to run this event. Personally I do not want to see an event like this run opposite the main event since I think space and tables will be limited, as well as the idea that some players will drop out of the main event instead to play in the Apocalypse game. I would rather see it run saturday night after the main tournaments (40K and fantasy) are finished as a way for some of the players to unwind. I also understand my opinion isnt shared by everyone so I am asking for some input. Please vote as to how you want this event run and please give reasons why. Share your ideas of how specifically you would like to see things run. thanks!

Personally, 5 games of 40k inside of 48 hours is more than enough. I feel no need to play in both in order to have a "full" weekend.
A giant apocalypse game is going to take all day, possibly for 2 days, and there isn't any way around that. Every time you add a player to a side, you are exponentially increasing the length of the overall game.
So for my money just run it at the same time as the GT. We've got more than enough space, hell we didn't even use the second floor for the whole 2009 GT.
If people really want to play in Apocalypse then they're probablly weren't planning on coming to the GT in the first place. We lose a couple people from the GT to the giant tar pit battle. Meh.
The purpose of this weekend is that the attendees have as good a time as possible and if their cup of tea is apocalypse sized, then let the poor guys have their game.
No need to impose our ideas of fun onto others.

Well said, James.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm from the Binghamton area. The players around here aren't huge tournament scene guys. We've had a couple of people attend DaBoyz in the past two years from this area.
I (and a lot of players in this area) am more interested in Apocalypse than five rounds of tournament play. I think that running the events side-by-side will increase attendance at your event. Don't think of Apoc as distracting from the GT, think of it as a way to bring more people in. People who like to play in tournaments (the people who have attended the GT in the past) aren't going to change what they want to do. Offering Apoc will entice other people to attend the event; people like me who haven't attended in the past.
To break it down: If given the choice between two events I will choose Apocalypse. I will make it a priority to attend the GT since these types of games aren't seen all that often. If Apoc runs after the tourney I won't play in it. I'd rather hit a bar or sleep. I probably won't even attend the GT.

OK now that I have seen some numbers I am still confused on what way to go.
It looks like a very small percentage of people want to just play in the Apocalypse game however some people want it run concurrently with the tournament. Let talk logistics. I would like to see 100 spots open for the 40K event ( we had 66 this year ) and 30 spots open for fantasy. That is a grand total of 130 people playing requiring 65 boards and terrain to fill them. We will most likely need all of downstair area and at least part of the upstairs balcony. I think at best we can do 50 full boards so between now and the GT we need at least 15 more boards and terrain built just for our tournament events. That leaves us nothing to offer for use in the Apocalypse game. I have had a generous offer from Will in Binghamton to run this game. If we turn this over to the Binghamton players can they:
-Supply boards and terrain for this event? -Have a judge to monitor this event? -Be willing to play at least some part of the cost for using the run meaning that teh Apocalypse event will cost money for people who are not competing in the daytime tournaments? -Accommodate the daytime 40K players who want to jump in and play saturday night?

Run the event? Tentatively yes. I need to get a firm buy-in from some folks here first.
-Supply boards and terrain for this event? Easily. We have lots of Apoc-worthy terrain.
-Have a judge to monitor this event? Of course.
-Be willing to play at least some part of the cost for using the run meaning that teh Apocalypse event will cost money for people who are not competing in the daytime tournaments? Also, of course. We can work up a budget some other time. I have some thoughts in this regard.
-Accommodate the daytime 40K players who want to jump in and play saturday night? Yes.

Personally, the GT is more important to me, though I'd probably like to check out the Apocalypse game too. I've played in a game in the past where another guy and I couldn't start at the same time as everyone else. Basically, we came on as reserves during our teams' next turn. It worked out really well and made for some interesting changes to the game from what I told.

Hey all... Thanks about the boat. Just need to bling it up. I'd love to help host an Apoc game. I see it as a "show" game, that would run off to the side during your GT. People can opt in and out, play a round, move some minis, roll some dice. We have three luan play surfaces, felt and terrain, so we would not take anything away from the GTs supplies. Just three tables for supports - and it sounds like you have the room. It might also act as a buffer for curious onlookers. We can field questions about the hobby and what the clubs offer, allowing you to focus on your games. We'd like the chance to chip in. Citizen Dave

We can do bigger than three tables if needed as well.

Oh, that's right. Thanks, Will. If we put down Taros, the city alone might take up three tables. Then we need some room for open desert stuffs... ;D (Can we wrap the mountain ridge in a tarp and strap it to your roof?)

Please god no felt, tarp, plastic or tapped down tables for apoc and or the GT this coming year. I'll gladly donate decent quality plywood to avoid having to play on that crap this coming year!
As mentioned previously I live in Rochester and can be build / coordinate specific aspects of the apocalypse event if need be.

Ok folks here is the break down: - I believe due to time we will need to run this at the same time as the GT
- As far as space I have a CAD Lay out of the building and we can fit 80 tables in this building comfortably (I know we don't have that many tables or terrain but we are working on that)
- As for the Apocalypse game we have our Baltimore Games day table that is 16'x6' and I believe we had 15k+/- on each side of the board for that. I also have two 4x6 boards that I use for Apocalypse all the time and I can probably pump out a third one so that you could have a 12'x6' table.

An apocalypse game runing at the same time as the GT would be fun. If a nice large well run apocalypse game would be running at the same time as the GT I would love to be in on that.

Hey, just moved to rochester from oregon. i've had quite a few visits to boldos. i personally would like to come and watch a few games since its been a while since i've played. building up my csm army, this could give me time to get into the scene over here, and from an onlookers stand point, i think having an apoc game run on the side would be awesome. After all, who doesnt like to watch huge onslaughts. and who knows maybe it will grab a few peoples attention and want to try out the game bringing more people in. Also, is there a date that this usually happens?
*neverminid* failed to read another thread with the info ><
