Alright, so I noticed that no one from the 40k side has really given a run down of how the tourney went for them, so I figured I'd go ahead and do it (mainly in order to put off home work)
Most of you know my army, but for those that don't, here's a quick run down:
Chaplain w/ jump pack and assorted goodies
Ven Dread w/ assault cannon and heavy flamer baby! WOOT
8 man tac squad: las, plas, tank hunter, vet Sgt-apothecary
8 man tac squad:plas cannon, plas, tank hunter vet Sgt-apothecary, combi plas
8 man tac squad: heavy bolter, flamer, vet Sgt- apothecary
8 man scout squad: 7 sniper rifles, heavy bolter
2 Land speeders: a$$ cannons, heavy bolters
6 man a$$ squad, 2 plas, vet sgt-fist
Whirly
Pred Annihilator
8 man dev squad: 3 missiles, tank hunter
alright so first game is vs Andre and his Slanneshy Chaos. Andre didn't have much painted yet, but it looked like he had sum cool conversions in the works. Game was a bit of a shoot out and turned into a slug fest by the objective. End result was a win for me because I was able to sneak a couple tanks near the objective to claim it.
MVP for the game: Chaplain and assault squad-managed to help take out a few squads, and looked good doing it.
Lesson learned: Don't be afraid to run a Whirlwind up the board toward the objective. WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
That bring us to game 2 vs Tommy himself. Terrain was a HUGE part in this game. This cannot be stressed enough. Most of the shooting in the game was effectively killed. I tried to get risky with an assault squad, but a raging chaos dready caught them. Oh well. Ended up being a loss because i only scored 2 of tommy's dreads and he got a lot more points than that of mine.
MVPs of the game. Whirlwind managed to land a direct shot on Tommy's big squad of Chaos marines. 14 hits and 5 partials. That killed 4 of them and pinned them.
Apothecaries all get an honorable mention because every time Tommy's Auto cannon havoc squad shot my guys, i ignored all wounds. HURRAY
Lesson learned, Chaplain needs at least a krak grenade or sumthing.
Last game for Saturday was vs Brian Stein and his drop podding marines. Brian had a well themed army with a back round story and all and was painted really well. Didn't have a lot to do in the first couple turns as we waited for Ben's drop pods. Again I tried being risky with the Chaplain and assault squad and they got smoked. My dreadnought managed to take care of Brian's command squad, mainly because of bad luck with his power fist. Once the drop pods came out it was a shooting gallery. At the end of the game I believe we were within less than one hundred victory points of each other. A very fun and enjoyable game.
MVP: Dread that got the entire command squad, master, and chappy
My chaplain that managed to take out most of an assault squad before he went down.
Lessons learned: Use more strategery. Also, Apothecaries would benefit from having power fists, because baddies will usually get to them.
Day 1: 1-1-1
Saturday started out with me showing up late. Darn church. It's ok though because i played Mike with his Fishes of Fury Tau Army. I really didn't think all of the piranhas and vehicles were that bad. I had fun blowing lot's of vehicles up and Mike had fun blowing my stuff up. A huge moment was the death of Mike's Commander, and all of his army (that could) subsequently fleeing. Also Mike shooting his entire army at my Chaplian and only doing 1 wound didn't help him much. Defiantly a fun game had by both, and again, a very close game that ended in tie.
MVP: TANK HUNTING SQUADS. Bolters being able to take down piranhas is HUGE.
Lesson Learned: Drones are f*ucking annoying!
Last game for the tourney put me against good ol' Mikey West and his Blood Angels. Pretty standard set up and mission. My scouts got smoked first turn and i got his Baal Predator and Terminators. But once the Death Company and Assault squad got to my masses marines, it was over. My chaplain made a terrific showing for himself, but couldn't carry the load to ungodly terms. This ended up being a win for Mike, but I'd say it was an enjoyable game.
MVP:Again, Mr. Chappy for taking out more than his points worth.
Lesson Learned: Again, apothecaries could have benefited from power fists.
End Result: 1-2-2
My scored for painting, comp, and sportsmanship were what i expected. I still have a bit to finish up for painting, i think i took a pretty fair army (which may be used for an example if Jay and company want to elaborate on comp scores) and my i tried to let the small things go in games in order to make them flow smoother.
I deffinatly had a fun time this weekend. Thanks to Matt for giving me change when i first got to the tourney, to Doug for driving my ass to DeBella's, all the guys i played for fun games, and to Sean, Jay, Chris, and Boldo for running a fun event which i hope to attend next year.
