what do you use to finish a model? your models are definitely coated in something at the end... but what? I know its not 'ardcoat, it is far shiner than what you use... but I don't think your using dullcoat either.

this is what i use (Chris uses the same stuff)
Krylon
UV-Resistant Clear
I used gloss for my nids.
Matte for sisters
Remember that you can go from gloss to matte. not the other other.
do a test model first. I have heard horror stories.
you can buy it at michaels craft store.

you can buy it at michaels craft store. Or probably Walmart for 1/3 the cost.

I use something i stole from my brothers art supplies so a little pricey, not sure of the name offhand.
But it's a layer of gloss and then wait wait wait for it to dry.
When you think it's dry, you wait another hour.
if you dont it will screw up your paintjob so badly it'll only be funny to the rest of us.
Then you put a coat of matte varnish over it.
Sometimes, mostly just for all plastic models, i'll skip straight to the matte varnish. The plastic models don't tend to chip and i just want the vanish for the finish it gives.

Why the gloss then the matte for metal models?

gloss has been proven to be a much stronger finish and will help more with chipping then the matte finish only.
also, the gloss will bring out richer fuller colors on your work where the matte will tend to mute and blend colors togeather.
the matte over the gloss tends to fade the colors less.
