Codex Release January 2010 96 pages 4 new species Codex written by Robin Cruddace the author of Guard dex Return of special characters (but they're like not meant to be special - they're just survivors of a big war and then mutated) New special rule - consolidating into CC* Lowering of vehicles AV in CC* New Battleforce Army overall better at anti-tank
Models: 3 new plastic kits and 3 new metal kits Plastic Gargoyles and Trygon are pretty much a lock. Other Plastic kit is unknown. Could be a Hive Tyrant or Raveners. Plastic Trygon with variable options (head/jaw options, tail options), box rumored to have 3 sprues New metal Biovore model
The Malanthrope will be in the codex as a new HQ and will make Rippers a scoring unit*
Gaunt boxes repacked into Termagants or Hormagaunts, boxes of 10 Hormagaunt for 6pts, option of WoN for +3 Gaunts with no weapons, WoN for 3pts Fleshborers at 1pt
Genestealers going to Elites. Broodlord allows them to be taken as Troops Broodlord to have more options
Warriors in every FOC slot - Tyrant would make them Troops, Wings - Fast Attack, Heavy Support Warriors will get +T, +Sv and each can get a heavy weapon symbiote
Tyranids have supposedly got a hold of an alpha+ level psyker and integrated his DNA into the swarm meaning they will have about as many psychic powers to choose from as space marines (and they are all assumed to "make world wolf look like a child's game")
*-take with a pinch of salt

All these new psykhik powers and psykers are starting to piss me off.
And to think everyone hates horde ork armies, wait till WoN gaunts are on the table.
Have to disagree with what "chum" says about bugs being workable again though. Nids have always got some good luvin from GW.
Hope they dont up their anti-armor too much, cause every army should have somewhat of a weakness.
Also not sure of what new options u could possibly want on a broodlord, they already close combat monsters. Lets not get greedy here.

with the exception of the psychic power and anti armor comments, im with terry...
they really arent terrible now, just need a few rules and points tweakings mostly, but taking out armor from a range is a big problem for us right now... especially with all the mech heavy lists everyone is playing nowadays... but still dont need ridiculous anti armor...
however, psychic power should be a bit more prevalent in th new book, seeing as the hive mind is one of the strongest psychic powers in existence... but its bs that the SW will probably still out psyche them...

They do just fine in compy environments where people run subpar 4th editioney armies, and that's when the go bugzilla. As it is now, they lack the capacity to reliably bring down armor, suffer incredibly from Fearless, and don't have anything outside of Tyrants+Guard that can reliably make it into assault and win (then the TH/SS termies show up).
I'd love them to have more options than just "how many Carnifexes do I need?" without totally gimping themselves.
Horde armies are a necessary balancing act to force people to make take all comers armies. I love the huge divergence in play style, I just hope they don't end up a one dimensional snorefest like horde Orks, I'd prefer more flexible like IG.
I agree that bugs need a big psychic presence considering the might of the Hive Mind. It would be kinda cool if they were more anti-psyker oriented (disrupting other psykers is a big part of the Shadow in the Warp) and had buff/debuff powers rather than super zappy doom. Bugs need anti-psykers if they're going to do well against fun stuff like Jetseer Councils, Lash and Jaws.
Bugs need anti armor options that don't suck. Glancing hits only sucks, S8 pies suck, combat sucks, Acid Mines suck, AP- devourers suck, and BS3 warp blast that gets shut down by hoods or RoW suck. There's a reason they hate armor, they can't do anything to it!
To make anti-armor better they could make Warp Blast AP1, remove the "glancing hits only" idiocy from venom cannons, give 'fexes something like the Hierophant's biocannon (S as creature AP2 assault 1), make mines worth using (bio-acid = S4 AP3 melta, lance or whatever) and not give up KPs, and give them the means to drag down armor in HtH (always hit on a 4+, AP1 against vehicles, or something). I heard deathspitters will be getting the melta rule, so massed blasts with melta would be effing sweet for Warrior broods.
Without any vehicles or transports, bugs are at the mercy of enemy shooting all game. They need to close quicker to keep pressure up and prevent them from getting led around by the nose by mech armies. Genestealers always infiltrating, Broodlords with fleet, outflankers, Trygons making their entry holes count as a board edge for reserves, WoN letting you come off of side edges too, assaulting after deep strike, fleet for everything, and stuff like that. Wouldn't make them crazy (they still have to open up armor and can still be stopped by bubblewrap and roadblocks) but will give them lots of options and force their opponent to always be on his toes (as it should be).
Fighting bugs should be a frantic, desparate affair, with little buggers ready to crawl all over you at a moment's notice. As it is now, you're stuck with bunker in armor, pop 'fexes, rinse repeat. Lame.
I'm very excited for the new book, it should make bugs fun again.

Between Battleforces and Space Hulk I think we've got around 40 Genestealers, so I hope we're set on that.
Now the real question is...
2 Trygons, or 3?
