Now that sounds like a cool idea. From my take it sounds like rotating tournaments at stores with like a team from each store with a sort of draft thing going on? Im not wholley sure about what I read but I think I get the jist of it. I cant speak for boldo or Shuan (the owners) but I like the idea of that. Perhaps they will reply on this..I will deffinetly will mentin it to them next i see them...(sunday) (-no more thursdays off ) And hopefully one of them will get into contact with you about it. Now there are 2 Travis's...(isis?) on the board....Travis and Traviss...I assume you the Travis from Millenum, right? What do others think about this idea?

ROTATING TOURNAMENTS IS A GRAND IDEA, IT GROWS OUR HOBBY, ALLOWS US TO PLAY A LARGER GROUP OF PEOPLE, SPREADS THE WEALTH, MAY EVEN INCREASE THE SIZE OF OUR GROUP AND LAST OF ALL RAISE THE STANDARDS THAT WE PLAY BY. SORRY TO HERE THAT YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON THURSDAYS NIGHTS IRON WARRIOR, BUT YOU GOTTA HAVE A JOB. I HOPE TO HAVE ONE SOON, NO THANKS TO XEROX! "ANY ONE NEED A DESIGNER ?" CIAO!

I think we are running way a field on this discussion. If Travis wishes to discuss problems with GW then perhaps a new post would be in order. Back to the main topic of tournaments. I think coordinated tournament, a ranking system and a regular rotation of tournaments would be a good idea but has a huge number of problems. Coyote's den runs regular tournaments and this will mean fewer tournaments and they already sell out so more people less often is no deal. Second it is my experience with tournaments that people will not travel to other stores. I have been running oturnaments at conventions and at my store for the longest time and it is for the same people. Those who come are Da Boyz. It will also mean respecting other stores playing days so we do not schedule tournaments, and leagues on game nights of other stores. Finally as the only store that offers a discount it seems that forcing others to have a discount to match mine is an attempt to undercut my business.
Now the idea of a monthly tournament at Boldos on the first of every month rotation between fantasy and 40k is a great idea. I really like to idea of the local stores getting together and doing a rating system like chess or magic for the players based on results is an awesome idea. I like the idea of several large tournaments a year and as such we ran a big one at Rudicon in the fall and will split up the spring tournaments to run the fantasy side at Simson for a DA Boyz GT which will hopefully be an Indy GT. As such I propose the following idea. 40 k every even month on the first Sunday and Fantasy on the the first sunday of every odd month.
Thus we will have our first 40k tournament in December. Starting time 11am. 3 rounds $10 with prize and pizza. How about 1300pts or would people like more pts.
Travis I am easy to contact and if you wish to discuss some larger ideas for our area please contact me privately using Da boyz messages.
Thanks, Boldo

Man I would love to see more 40k and fantasy tournaments held on a regular basis, especially with all the stores participating. Regardless of any rankings or discounts it would be great just to get a set schedule of tournaments (1st Sunday 40K, 3rd Fantasy and rotated among the stores for example) Regardless of anything else just getting more gaming in, especially with new players would be great. I hope the stores can work this out, I believe it would benefit all their business and the players would much appreciate the effort.

In regards to what Courtney said, more tournements is definitely something I would like to see. I enjoy playing the weekly pickup games with everyone, but the tournaments seem to motivate me to paint more as well as buy product for upcoming events. I am all for runninng the "first of the month" tourneys that we did at Boldo's. I was thinking of getting this going again in November, but December would be better and would give us better time to prepare. Please post thoughts and suggestions for the first of the month tourney so that December can start off with a good solid event.
As for the combined tourneys or the team sponsorship, I do think these are ideas worth exploring. There are some space considerations (Coyote's Den) that have been raised which I think is justified, but I believe there has to be a way to get all the fantasy and 40K'er involved and participating in events outside of their "home" stores. My personal opinion is that events create interest in the hobby, and interest sells product, which in turn benefits all the retailers in the area. I hope that all the retailers can work out somethng that will benefit each of their stores as well as the gaming community. I play at several stores and want to feel comfortable at each place. I am sure each retailer appreciates my business, and I make every effort possible to help support each business where I play. Combined events and combined advertising I believe would help expand the local market.

COYOTE'S DEN is 40K only, (not enough interest in FANTASY) they have a tournament every 3 weeks. Maximum capacity is ten tables, "thats 20 players." They average 12 players per tournament. The mix is mostly local players, very difficult to get them to play out of town. "I've tried", they really need some out side influence! The next 2 COYOTE'S DEN TOURNAMENTS are: November 12th & December 3rd. WHAT'S GOING ON THIS SUNDAY @ BOLD'S 40K WISE?CIAO!

I dont think anything is goning on sunday coming up. I do think that SoB Said somehting about running a tournement like thing next sunday.
As for the tournement ideas...looks likethere is some conflicts that need to addressed before anything happens. Although I do see where boldo is coming from. Coyotes den doenst do fantasy and they have a small number allowed toplay (due to space) Millenuim can pretty much hold alot more than either store. People from Coyotes den dont travel as per Dragons mention. Boldos and a very few from millenium travel.
Dicount cards is an issue between the buisness that I hope they can resolve and NOT HURT the players intetnion to PLAY A GAME. Its really none of the players business or concern. The tournements should be about the game not who can make out with the most money...that is if people want this to work. I realize this is a buisness running a tounement but if everything is about money (like GW) then it will inevitably fall into ruin. I do hope some sort of agreement can be found so this can get off on the right leg. Im willing to help out.
I like the idea of many tourments like in the old rtt days.
Perhaps if we cant settle on a rotating schedule...perhaps a team game/tournement/megabattle (whatever) vs the stores at one of the stores every month or other month.
I just think it would be cool to see 5-10 player from each store show up and play a huge tournement or Mega battle or team tournament.

The best way to keep a tournament schedule for "The First Sunday Of The Month Tournament" is to change it to the second or third week of the month.
Why, I'm gland you asked!
"FIRST WEEKEND HOLIDAYS" NEW YEARS DAY 4th OF JULY LABOR DAY +THE ROLLING HOLIDAYS
"LAST WEEKEND HOLIDAYS" MEMORIAL DAY XMAS DAY +THE ROLLING HOLIDAYS
CIAO & HAVE A NICE DAY!

Thanks Ron, I guess I decided against it for this sunday. Alex suggested starting again in December and since I was not there yesterday to get anything going maybe we can start planning for December. Again thank you for the help Ron, and come first weekend in December we will start. How does this sound?
