Heres a new thread to post your ideas about wether to start up the 1st of the month tournements or something else.
As said before:
-All Xenos idea (plus guard) -Rotate between Fantasy and 40k
other ideas or discussions?
I would like to see a team tournament, or an army swap one.

I have a few ideas.
I would like to do a campaign. I have never ran one, but think it would be fun.
If we do tournaments then I think 1 every 2 or 3 months would be best. There are always other tournaments that people go to or happen around here. Simcon, Running Gagg, RIT tournies, Adepticon, GTs, etc... You get the point. I just named 5 and I know alot of people can't do 1\month, so adding too many monthly tournies gets people burned out.
I think team tournies are fun. Not rotational(like Geneseo last year), but true team tournies. You plan with your partner to make a storyline for your force and can strategize about army comp.

I very much like the idea of a team based tournament with permanent predetermined partners. I think there's a lot of room for strategy in a 2vs2 but due to the nature of pick up games it is often lost to a "ignore my partner and go git em!" routine.

Just FYI there is a Narritive Campaign going on right now. You can read up on it in the Fiction Section, Named: Soldiers of Faith
Right now its Dave, Doug, Orville(?) vs Me, Tommy and Brian(?) Imperials vs choas. People are welcome to join us in it but we play on sundays when available.
Anyways..continue.

I like the once a month. I know that it increase the numbers for those of you who do all the big tournies, but not all of us do them. Keep in mind, I'm refering to once a month rotatating between fantasy and 40k. This is manageable. And if there is ever a month where it looks like no one will show, we can always cancel for that month. That can be true for the local big tournies. But when you talk about GTs, and Adepticon, and the other tournies that aren't local, they are not a great reason for not holding a local tourney.
Just my 2 cents....

I enjoyed the first of the month tourneys and would very much like to get back to our informal pizza and prize first sunday of the month format. I also like the idea of fantasy/40K rotation since many of us have both armies and would enjoy playing both. I do like the once a month tourney, it is not mandatory but fun and gives options for everyone who wants to play.
We discussed a Xenos tourney for the first sunday of November (5th). As Ron said, no marines or chaos, nothing with a 3+ save besides necrons, how does this sound? We did not come up with a point cost as of yet. I have a wedding that day (11/5) and cannot run the tourney. We could either have it the following sunday or someone else could run it. I would really prefer postponing it a week since I like the idea of not playing chaos/marines for a change. How does everyone feel about it? $5 or $10 with Pizza? Point cost? Is Novemeber 12 good?

I'd love to try and get an Eldar army at least constructed and on bases for a November tourney. I would ask the point cost be kept around 1500 or so. This is not only so I can have enough points to play, but I think for some of the returning crowd to the 1st of the month scene, it would be nice to ease in with a slightly smaller scale battle.

woah...slow it down here. We just came off our GT here, some people are still burnt out from it. Why not wait a few weeks to give people some heads up for painting and such. If we did the Xenos thing we would have to have a more thought out format because there are a few choice armies that may have poblems. Like Deamon/Witch Hunters, LOTD, Guard, Eldar..ect...any army with access to 2/3+ saves. Some guidelines would have to be put down on army creation.
I agree smaller points 500-1500 points for games. This theme could run for a few Tournaments (3-5) Iwouldnt mind heading it up if Shuan or boldo agreed to it. But I wouldnt start this till End of November or start of December.
Once a month is fine for 40k, and you could do a thing where fist Sunday is 40k and Last Sunday is Fantasy (I will not run fantasy, but would paticipate - Ogres munchmunchnhgnhgyumburp! -)
If your burned out by 40k once a month then dont play the other 3 sundays in the month.
Side note: *Thursdays I will be gone for 3 weeks due to new job training* starting next week the 30th of October. I will however have staurdays off for those 3 weeks.

O.K., Different take,we have a website, chatter is down slightly. So we can rejuvenate the chatter between us, by the following: 1) list all tournament activity for the month, (Majors, minors, Coyote's, Millennium, Rudicon, what ever. 2) Inquire who wants to participate in what. 3) Ask what Sundays work best on a monthly bases for the Boldo's Tournament, to assure a good turnout. 4) Once everything is collected, vote on it: Throw out Winning Tourney Concepts, Interest and best date, and post it here. "THIS WOULD BE THE OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT FOR THE MONTH" "EVERYTHING ELSE IS OPTIONAL PLAY FOR ALL" CIAO, THANKS MEMBERS FOR YOUR INTEREST!

I like the team tournament Idea... I would also like to see a team composition score in that tournament to encourage teams that make sense.

for the team tournament thing, would teams be predetermined (by players, judges or randomized) -before the tournament or at the tournament?

I would think they would be picked by the players, not picked when we get to the tournament.

I would say we switch it up and try both. randomly chosen at the start of the tournament and predetermined

Both is a cool idea....I would recommend randomized like 3-4 weeks before the tournmanet so you can get used to playing with your partner and form some strategy(?)

Hey Guys,
Just wanna chime in here real quick. If any of you have read any of my other posts that means a little less then a full reading of "War and Peace". With the coming comments, no pun intended.
The area that these 3 stores are in have been recently ravaged by price increases and competition from other companies when it comes to GW. The new edition of Fantasy has brought back a good number of people to the game (at least in my store, hopefully everyone else's as well, we all need to make money to exist). I like the idea of tourneys, I like the idea of multiple venues, I like teams tourneys, I like tourneys for both fantasy and 40k.
I really think locally the three of us, as store owners/managers, can do a real solid for the local player's that support us.We can put something together for the people that have stuck with us through the 5 price increases in the last 3 years. We can get past, GW trying to blame the lack of LOTR movies and them believing that we as hobby store owners run our business like clubhouses as a reason for THEIR decline in sales. So regardless of my hatred for the company, I feel we can put something really good together for our player's locally. So here are my thoughts.
Upstate New York Tourney Series
Bought to you by Boldo's Armory, Coyote's Den and Millennium Games and Hobbies(with dirty floors included in admission at Millennium)
The three stores run tourneys for both 40k and fantasy. All tourneys run under normal GW rules with each store being able to throw in what they want to make the tourney unique without the female doging of the player's(examples we usually do trivia, Coyote's does random scenario's and Boldo's does comp and I guess free pizza). With Alex doing free pizza I may even spend the $400-800 to put together an army to get my free 5 dollars worth of Rochester's finest. That was a joke laugh if your not, don't spit out the drink if you are. I haven't played this game since 3rd ed fantasy(I played Beastmen and hated buying 15 all metal blisters of Ungor).
Each month one store will run Fantasy on the first weekend of the month and a different store will run 40k on the third weekend of the month until all three stores have run both a fantasy and a 40k tourney. We will schedule these around big local events(Running Gagg, Rudi and UBcon). The reason for that spacing instead of the before mentioned is so people can go with out back to back tourneys and also because some of us have families and wife's to attend to. Okay maybe not you Doug, but the rest of us do. Also a joke for those of you scoring at home(Yes Doug that is worth 10 in store credit for you being the butt of it). I also owe him a beer as I remember Saturday letting him know that the hair he has lost his son has picked up. Either way great guys are both.
Here are my thoughts with a little less jesting at the people that keep the lights on in my store.. The visiting teams supply one judge a piece. Again, no female doging about choices from each store. Each store needs to bring an even number of people. If more people show from one store then the other we will make some changes. At the end of each tournament we give people prize support and compile the standings.
With this information we come up with a local ranking system. Basically have something that every company does other then GW(again my irritation with and ignorance of them shown, if they do someone send me the link to it). We then use this local ranking system to hold team tourneys in each store for each game(Fantasy and 40k). We can make sure that teams are evenly chosen this way. Anyone that is a bag and throws games to get on a certain team will be called on it. At which point the stores will make a decision on the incident and come to a vote which will include the judges for the particular event. Sorry to sound strict here. I have read many posts and heard many stories of the under handedness of the people that play this game competitively. After all it was made by the British(I'm Irish, secretly I prefer it to Confrontation made by the Frogs). Please though, let's have a season/tourney series as well received as Alex's' most recent tourney was minus the RIT douche factor.
The three stores have player's at different stages of competitive play. I think my store definitely has the youngest group of player's for 40k and oldest for Fantasy, with Alex having the most versed tourney player's and Travis(from an alternate dimension, since I'm Travis too,or 2 or as well) having a good mix of both. I don't want to make the teams tourneys one store versus the other for a ton of reasons.
I want each team to have a rep from each of the stores on it. Each team will be responsible for making their player's adequate partner's. The highest ranked player will be team captain. They will responsible for sending e-mails to store owners and organizers if they are having conflicts(scheduling, play style, body odor, whatever).
The reasons are as follows:
First a bunch of customers shop at each store. Second fair teams make for a better play experience then busted teams. It's no good to be the best at a game in an area if no one wants to play that game. Third, I want this to build player's drive to play and be able to send a group of people from each store to the big tourneys and have them do well. Fourth, I would like to see this game locally get back on it's feet regardless of what their corporate offices are saying or doing.
Player's are given the option of what store they want to represent. They also get to pick a second store that they would like to represent if we need to even out teams. Each store gets to choose which player's they want to play for them until the list of player's is depleted. Any conflicts will be resolved based on what the primary choice from the player is. As an example C4 chooses Millennium as his primary and Boldo's as secondary, I had last pick and Alex wants C4. I choose to challenge Alex to a chain mail making contest. All disputes must be settled in under 10 minutes. When the challenge is over the person not involved in the challenge (Good Travis from an alternate universe in this case)decides on the winner. Bribes under 10 dollars are allowed. At the end of the draft any player's that chose stores are evened out among the three.
As store owners we will meet and put together a universal sale policy for all of the members playing. I want all customers on the same playing field in terms of purchases. We will agree on discounts that will be given universally, if any. That means player's at one store visiting will get the same discount, if any,on purchases at another store.
All player's will get a card with discount info and there name, if there is a discount. Player lists will be given to all stores and I.D.'s will be needed to receive any discounts. People not participating in this format are handled as usual. Hopefully, this is not violated either.
I realize that this is a huge undertaking in terms of time and effort for all stores. I consider myself at least a 10-1 underdog here for those that want to make bets(I need to win something here). It will be over the course of a year or so depending on schedules. I think it's something we can pull off. I realize that people can't make every tourney. We will make adjustments as needed and average out what we can to make it work. We aren't playing for a new car anyway so we should use this to have fun.
Hopefully this is something that the player's will enjoy and the stores will benefit from in the long run and we can keep this thing going regardless of what GW does.
I would also like to get the three stores locally working together instead of apart. The area is big enough for all of us to be successful. Any issues can be hammered out when the three of us or more get together where it's good for all parties. If space becomes an issue we have a gaming annex that is capable of fitting 250 plus that all stores can use as they want. It costs us $50 a day to have the area and we can make arrangements as needed.
Sorry for jumping on your post Ron. I just really liked the idea and wanted to take it to the next level.
Travis
So let me know what you guys think.
