Hey guys, I wanted to let you all know that HobbyTown USA in Amherst, NY is once again running 40K events at our store. With that said our next event is listed below and I wanted to extend the invite to you guys since you've been here before. If you are interested contact the store to sign up.
Battle Mission Madness Saturday, April 24, 2010 10a.m. - 6p.m. HobbyTown USA 3332 Sheridan Drive Amherst, NY 14226 716-833-7700
Entry Fee:$20
Tournament Rules 1. The point value for this tournament is 2000pts. You will use the standard force organization chart and all armies must be selected from their most recent respective codex. The IA books are not legal codices for the purpose of this tournament.
2. The format of the tournament will be three (3) missions from the Battle Missions book. The missions you play, though randomly determined, will always be race specific to either your army or your opponent’s army depending on an initial dice roll. Armies not directly represented in the battle missions book will be “counts-as” marines.
3. Modeling for advantage is strictly forbidden. The tournament organizer (TO) shall make any and all final judgment calls on this topic and shall exercise what he considers to be extreme prejudice.
4. A legible army list per player is required.
5. The TO has final say in any and all rule disputes.

Sounds fun.
Can you give more info on # of rounds, time limit, scoring methods, and prizes?
I'm assuming it's 3 two hour rounds, but two hours is super tough at 2000 points. I think most games at the 1850/2hr tourneys locally only went about 4 turns of possible 7.

honestly, 2 players should be able to make it through a full 7 turn game in 2 hours, at 2000 points, if they are both familiar with their army and their codex.
Is painting judged in this tournament?

I've gone to several 2k tourneys and 2hrs is very tight at best.. I typically only get 1 out of 3 games past turn 4.

My knee can slow me down, but it can't break me.
I'd like to go too, but I'd also like to hear more about how scoring is gonna work.

well yea, its tight, but it should be doable Much easier for MEQ players who only have to deploy/move 8-12 vehicles for the first few turns. Not so easy for ork/IG/tyranid players who field 75+ models.

yea, thats probably true... my fastest game ever at 1850 pts was over in about 40 minutes... marines vs marines.

I think 2 hrs is plenty. Even horde armies can get that done, it just takes practice to figure out exactly how you want to deploy and then do it without eating up half an hour.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the scoring system is still being worked out. However the t.o. is not a fan of soft scores, so with that said I don't think painting will factor into the score. I should have a better idea for you all tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Will there be a limit on the number of tables/players?
I stopped by HobbyTown last summer and I don't recall it having a lot of space for tables unless there is a back room or a playing area I missed. I should know in the next day or two if I will be able to attend.

That rules me out. Just not into winner take all tournaments.
