Has anyone else read the 'Ard Boyz scenarios for this year? www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1120521a_40KArdBoyzPrelimScenarios.pdfBattle #3 gives 3kp for each unit that can move more than 6" in any phase. That means all non-walker vehicles, thunder wolves, psykers with gate, etc each are worth 3 points per kill. I guess the powers that be are trying to discourage leafblower, mechdar, razorback, and other mech lists. Steve - if you read this, DON'T BRING THE BIKE ARMY lol.

steves army gives up minimal kill points anyway... what is it, 7 or 8 total? the power it brings to the table can probably make up for the extra points

Yeah but in an all bike/LS list, 7-8 KP becomes 21-24 in 'ardboyz mission #3.

It's just one mission, plus if you bring a leafblower type list, you should dominate your 1st two games and in all likely hood you will face a similiar army in the final round.
My list is going to go from 31KP to 67KP. Still going to bring it!

lol i'm planning on bringing a 4 land raider list to 'ardboyz. mechanized, with the fewest transports possible if anyone has 3 spare raiders they could lend me, i'd love to bring a 7 raider list

Well, 3rd mission did end up being very rough on mech lists. I didn't go to RIT Sunday since I placed Saturday, but top 3 at MG were all non-mech lists that scored massacres against mech lists in the 3rd round.
Will GW have 3 new missions for semi-finals, or will they use the same 3 from last weekend?

They usually put out new ones. Hopefully these won't be unplaytested

yea. I had to fight jay on saturday. If I had massacred him, i'd have had first place... a tie would have put me in second (most likely, not sure how many points smitty had, might have been 3rd) My list had 30 possible killpoints because of the bonus... Jay's had 13 to start, thought he spawned a brood of gaunts near the end, so a total of 14 I suppose. we both did a good job wailing on each other. victory points wise, it was pretty much a dead tie (might have been slightly in my favor, don't remember). he had a wounded tervigon, a wounded fex, and a squad of 3 fexes in a corner. I had a rhino full of tac marines, 4 typhoons, a land raider, and an immobilized dreadnought locked with his tervigon. Killpoints wise, because of the bonus to vehicles, he was 5 points ahead of me. I find it funny a 35 point rhino is worth 3 times as many killpoints as a 600 point squad of carnifexes. If not for the scenario, i'd have won killpoints, 9-8. Oh well. I doubt this is the death of mech, because at most GT's, I don't expect they will adopt a crazy scheme for missions like this. The fact is, the guy who wrote these missions probably plays foot orks, or a nid swarm. I look forward to fighting jay again, with a similar list, at the next tournament, when we can play in a mission where we both have a chance of victory, rather than it being an uphill battle because of the mission changing fundamental parts of the game

I hear that.
I've actually been hoping to face off against Jay, but 3 tourneys in a row and no luck.
Maybe I can get a practice match against him for the semi's ;D
The 3rd mission was pretty biased, but we had several days to re-list. I think Smitty's list may have been revised just for the 3rd round also. Never seen an Eldar list without wave serpents, falcons, or prisms.
Why didn't you play the 100 marine list Steve?

if I just played a horde of tac marines, i'd have been steamrolled by my first round opponent, or even moreso by jay (foot marines just don't have the firepower or resiliance to stand up to big bugs... ) Codex marine's only real hope at delivering a reasonable punch to the table is through use of mechanized vehicles. All other marine lists are just rolled over by orks, nids, and other horde armies. (ok, biker marines have a chance against them, but in the context of this mission, playing biker marines gives you no advantage, because they still count as 3 killpoints). While I could have fielded a marine company or so, they let us know about these missions a week ahead of time. A week. Sure, I could write a list I have no experience playing... but the only way i've ever been any good with marines is through mechanized marines. I'm not going to bring an untested list I have no experience playing just because it looks like it might help out the mission. Marines just can't pull off a horde infantry list, unless your spamming hammer terminators. I've seen some nasty 30 hammer/shield terminator lists. I don't own that many though, and have no real desire to buy that many, because i'd never use them outside of 'ardboyz. Whatever. It was a free tournament, and I had fun. Got to play against some good opponents. made 2 extremely careless mistakes, however.... 1) against smitty's foot eldar.. moved my land raider 6" away from his fire dragons, intending to disembark. Forgot to disembark from the raider. realized this 5 seconds into my shooting phase. Its 'ardboyz though, so I don't begrudge smitty for not letting it slide. 2) against ron's daemons, I held my entire army in reserve, and didn't move my first wave of reserves into the board far enough to give my second wave comming in next turn a good place to go. live and learn
