I was only there Saturday, any news of who Won Overall? painting etc etc? I figured the forums would be full of people chatting about the big GT afterwards.

Just wanted to thank all the guys (and girls...just for Shawn ) for all the time and effort you put into the event this weekend. I know how much planning and prep time goes into this type of event and it was great to see everything run so smoothly. Great tables, scenarios were cool, all the people I met were super nice (and some drunk heh), and the judges were always available with great answers. Jay you still owe me a decision that goes in my direction hehe. I had a blast and look forward to it next year.

Set-up was insanely fast, I think 50 tables went up in an hour? Games started up pretty quickly and I was lucky to play one of the national bloggers. It was also cool to meet and play various internet celebs and ETC members. I know you guys had some technical difficulties and no doubt other challenges behind the scenes, but everything seemed smooth to me and nobody looked over stressed. I was also shocked at the amount of swag raffled off. Great job with the prize support and thanks to the local shops that contributed. Thanks to everyone involved and thanks to everyone who voted for PLANET PETCO WOOOOOOO!!1!

I am glad Andrew won the best theme, his grots army was awesome with great conversions. Really great job on the tourney organization and execution. I'll second that. I had the honor of facing him accorss a table, and it may have been the best game I had. I say "may have been" because all of my opponents were great and I had a blast. But I must say that is was funny having him tell me that he ran a Dread army like mine, only to find I was outnumbered in Dread Chasis by three to one. Overall, it was a great weekend. Great tables (even though I only played on three, which I actually liked since it saved the shoulder), great armies, great opponents, great loot (even though I once again missed out on it by one game gone bad). In other words, I had a great time. You guys did a Great job. (I think I've had enough of "Great") To those of you not from around here, see you next year. For those of you from here, probably see you sooner.

Thanks again to everybody that ran the event. It was a great time, and I'm already thinking about what to bring next year. And in case anybody's interested, here's an Excel file of the results so you can sort based on the different categories. Attachments:

The regression equation makes sense conceptually - the higher your comp score, the lower your battle points. Unfortunately, that's a really low r-sq. You've got my curiosity piqued. Would you run another regression for Total score with all the other values as predictors? I want to see which are relevant and what the regression woudl be for all values. I could dump it into minitab but it looks like you've probably already got a dataset defined. And I'm lazy.

What jdubb said. I was parsing Skyth's data, but then my Flux capacitor ran out of Plutonium.. or something......yeah. Not gonna lie, most of those numbers mean nothing to me.
Thanks for posting the results of the GT though. Now for planning for the next year!

Thanks for the statistical analysis skyth! I attached a plot of Battle vs. Comp scores for those that want to see a visual. As Jdubb says, in general, the higher the comp score, the lower the battle score which makes sense and vice a versa. The correlation coefficient is -.14, which is in the right direction, but in this case is not significant (a perfect correlation between the two would be -1 by the way). The ones that stick out above the others are the ones who won awards (i.e. Sparks and C4 both had good comp and battle scores), which is exactly what the intention of the tourn was stated to be - find good generals who didn't rely on smash-mouth lists. It is interesting to see that the two highest battle scores had low comp scores - these were Space Wolf armies designed to destroy opponents and they did - especially in the hands of really good generals. Incidentally, if we throw out Patrick's scores (low comp and low battle - sorry little dude) and John McNeil's scores (the all character Space Wolf list) the correlation jumps to -.213 and is now significant (especially from a social science perspective; p=.047). Yeah, the P values are still low for Statistical work. However, the biggest problem with doing any sort of analysis is that player skill, matchups, and just plain chance play a large effect.
I was glad to see that the comp scores weren't clustered. I did an analysis of the 2008 results, which actually had battle increasing as comp increased. However, one thing I noticed is that most of the comp scores were clustered into a very small region, which throws off the results.
It would have been interesting to do a similar anaylsis for each codex present, but unfortunately that wasn't part of the data given.
