Hi all, apologies if this is considered spamming (If so please delete the old post as this is the finalized information & the other one was just looking for input) April 8th - 10th is UB Con. The University At Buffalos annual gaming convention. Attached to this is the template for their warhammer 40k tournament. It can also be found as a link to a google document here : bit.ly/UB_Con_wh2011There will also be a 500 point singles tournament on Friday & a possible doubles tournament on Sunday (Details will be added when I have the templates back from my proof readers / rules-lawyers who are looking for any holes that need to be filled) If anyone would like to pre-register it would be greatly appreciated so I can have a rough idea of how many people will be there ahead of time. Nothing much just a simple "Hey, my name is < >, I plan on attending" will suffice. Thank you all for looking and I hope to see you there. Attachments:

Typo;
"3:15 am : The third round will begin"
Mission scoring seems needlessly complex?
Any break down in scoring sheet?

Will fix typo.
Uses novacon system, and they seem to know what they are doing so I am trusting in their system.
I don't understand what you mean by breakdown. You list your percentages & victory points. The means to calculate them are in the mission rules. You don't need to worry about the breakdown just your overall totals. The scoring system will be handled by tournament staff the formula is just given for transparency reasons.

I think the confusion in scoring is more on the presentation in the document. Scoring is 'really'
- Win/Loss Ratio Tie Breaker - win/loss + %primary + %secondary
The Tie breaker formula is also used to determine seedings and is called your 'competitive rating'
Using some bolds and different font sizes and tweaking the presentation will probably reduce confusion on this and make the document a bit more palpable.

My break down was specifically in reference to the break down of how points are awarded on the last page. Is their a criteria that each judge gets to determine for example how that first 50 points is awarded?

It is entirely subjective. Painting is not something that can be determined by a non subjective matter like the outcome of a game, at least to my knowledge. What is good to me and what is good to someone else can be radically different. If someone leaves out using washes yet their army still looks amazing I don't want them docked because a checklist says so. I feel people should be free to do whatever they want to make their army look however they are able.
To help mitigate one judges opinion I had spaces for 2 judges & broke the scores down into categories so that someone who is proficient in one area but not another can still obtain a fair amount of points.

I should have been more specific, I was responding to your 'mission scoring seems complex' part. I didn't even see the painting part, maybe a table of contents? I know a ton of work goes into these so, naturally, do not feel compelled to change anything because someone who doesn't have to do any work is making a suggestion

Con cost is $20 pre reg & $25 at door. Email con_director@ubsarpa.com or go to ubcon.org for more information on registration cost. Does not look like their is a 40K con listed yet in their event list. Is their an additional event charge for the 40K stuff on top of the con charge? Prize support?

It's not up on the site yet. As for prize support / extra cost you'd have to contact the con director - con_Director@ubsarpa.com
I have no say in cost or prizes.

Update on the 500pt single.
Where it says no model may have more than 2 wounds, that should be changed to: "No non-HQ model may have more than 2 wounds. No HQ model may have more than 3 wounds."
Also I have not heard about prize support however there will be prizes for at least the 1850 singles even if I have to pay out of my own pocket. I just can't afford to guarantee that for all 3 events.

URGENT!!
Anyone wishing to attend tomorrow or sunday I ask that you please bring terrain. UB Sarpa has been lacking in helping me to get anything done. Also I sincerely doubt there will be prize support provided. However I have said & maintain that the 1850 singles will have prizes. If anyone wants to donate to the prize pool to make it bigger for either event please do.
I apologize I am doing everything in my power but have been given no assistance.
EDIT: Boldo to the rescue! I will be holding a simple vote to determine if people want to chip in $5 to the prize pool. So please bring extra just in case.

Let me understand this correctly...
1) Drive 2+ hours. 2) Pay con prices. 3) No prize support. 4) Bring my own terrain. (and prizes!)
What am I waiting for? Let me get the General Lee gased up, save me a spot! (With convincing posts like that you have a stellar future in sales!)
