Thanks for the beat down...I mean learning session ranger hehehe. I actually did learn a lot especially setting my mindset for the order of turn. That was probably the most difficult for me. I am really curious if I was using Ruspatina's buffs right and will run a net search to make sure I was not cheating hehe.
At least I know enough now to play in the tourny but am looking for more games for sure. Guys let me know when your schedules open up for games and I will see what we can set up!!

I think myself and possibly some friends should be coming down for the tournament from Buffalo. I hope you got some good advise from the Wyrd guys.

So, any chance of more info on the setup for our lists? Gaining Grounds has four different composition bits that are pretty solid. Depending on what you guys do, it drastically changes how a lot of us are going to plan for the next month in terms of practice.

That's the biggest thing I'm wondering about...the Gaining Ground tournament system takes advantage of the fact that the game is balanced around writing your crew after you find out your strategy. What they do is limit what you can bring, whether letting you use everything you own for your list writing, only from one faction, only from a list of maybe 55 points of stuff to write your 35 with, or two or more lists with different Masters that are 'locked' that you choose from. If this tournament is going to use Gaining Grounds, that's important to know, if it isn't and is going to be one list only, that's even more important to know, especially since that's not how the game is balanced. My vote is for the 55 point selection system, personally.

Very true, would be nice to know, but I bet they just got back from Gencon and need time to recover before deciding on what kind of tournament to have. I would like one faction and pick your crew at the start, which is how I think a majority of tournaments are run.
Also would like to know if book 3 items will be allowed, if my order from Wyrd gets here before the tournament.

Most of the tournaments I've been reading about have been run straight from the book- you don't write your list until after you flip your Strategy. Which is what I prefer, because, as I said, that's how the game is balanced. That way, if someone is bringing Rasputina (like I might be) and you get Treasure Hunt, you can switch your list up to bring Colette or Marcus instead. This game isn't about an all-comers list...it isn't supposed to be. I mean, it won't keep me from coming and playing...but per the rules, it's how it's supposed to go, and how Gaining Grounds is written up.
Also per the Gaining Grounds rules, pre-release stuff (other than the alternate models) aren't allowed because not everyone has access to even the rules. But, once again, this is up to whoever's running this.

Actually gaining grounds states anything that has been released can be used. So even at gencon, if you were a fast builder and painter you could use anything released their in the tournaments there. Since those models were officially released. If not its not big deal, but would be more options.
I agree with you on the setup as well. I like the option where you pick your faction and then hire your entire crew, including master after you see the mission and other person faction.

Not sure if Avatars should be allowed for this event though, because book 3 hasn't been officially released...but we'll see. Not my call there.

Our Malifaux events will follow that same rules for new releases that we adhere to with 40k. If something hasn't been available for sale in regular retail stores for a month it can't be used in our events. If its a few days short, we will make exceptions. I ill have more updates on the event soon.
I had a chance to talk with the guys at Gencon about what should be done for a first event and feel pretty confident that this will be good times. I will update this again in a few days after I dig out of the work I have to do. I did update the first post with info on how the event will be rolled out.
Feel free to post any additional questions.
Oh yeah the prizes will include an Extreme Teddy as well as a Miss Demeanor among other things.

30 Soulstones, eh? Interesting. And 50 to bring...well, this is going to be an interesting event. I'm definitely looking forward to this! Is there still going to be a painting competition? And will it be for the 50 point master list, or for one of our 30 point lists?

Painting will be judged for prize support only. You will put together a legal 30 point crew to be judged.

Sweet, very cool. And, as another question, although it doesn't pertain to this specific event because I'm not bringing this list, what's going to be your stance on proxies? IE: I hate the Shikome model, but want to use one with Kirai. I'm getting an Anima Tactics model and adding wings to it to use instead. Would that be allowed, or are you going to be requiring official models?

Sounds good, but just want to clarify one thing... You pick a faction, supply a list of 50 ss worth of model(minions, totems, and henchmen) and you can swap masters out each round? Is this correct.
Thanks.
