I want to thank everyone for there feedback. We also are going to all the surveys and next week or two.
Missions One or two missions had some confusion wording in them, but what I am hearing 9 out 10 people liked them. I do like the idea we start puling missions from the past year’s events and start using them again.
Pairings: We did have minor issues with the software putting a person against each other that have already played. We had to correct that. Some people had to play on the same table twice. Next year we are going to have additional tables. So we can make switch if needed. Most events have all the tables with same terrain. The final issue some people had is pairing the first couple of rounds on comp. We never stated we were going to place pairings on comp. We don’t understand where that came from. It might have been discussed, not posted in packet or on website.
Location: Some people loved it and some hated it. We are looking for alternate solutions for the location for next year. Honestly the best place is inside a hotel. But then you need to deal with the cost. Are people willing to pay $30 more for a ticket to have it held inside a hotel? Maybe or maybe not.
Painting: This subjective and there are always issues. What one person thinks is a good army is not what other person thinks. The idea this year with painting is make the players display their army after each round and vote on it Sunday morning. We made people show up early Sunday morning to display and look at everyone’s army. Maybe it was not clear in the packet. Some people hated this. Some people were not going for best painted. We did set up tables so people could place there armies together. Some people used it and some did not. We also waited to hand out the sheets at 9:20 some all armies were on display and been looked at. The bonus points came from other players.
Volunteer help and judges. Yes we only had 5 judges at the event on Saturday. But you did not see was the 20+ plus people helping out to make terrain, trophies, missions, army list verification, organize the team event plus a ton of other stuff. I want to say thank you to all of those people.
Comp: I have love/hate relationship with this. I do think it was a lot better this year. Could we drop the 30 judge points? Maybe if the all the codices get updated. It should not be surprise that Tau and Chaos marines got max of 30 points. I think the guys that wrote rubric already have bunch of ideas to improve it. Again this very subjective. I did get thanked multiply times through out the weekend that they did not have to play a ton of spammed armies.

I gotta agree about the atmosphere. I attributed it to the battle over the ETC team spot. I was initially excited about this aspect because I thought I would have a shot at the spot (hahaha). It didn't take me long to realize through chatter and whatnot that several people came "to win at all costs". I actually overheard a few conversations that I wish I hadn't which made me want to drop out of the event after 4 games. I feel like without the competition for the ETC spot, the player base and atmosphere would have been different. I also had the most unenjoyable games of my life, easily beating out 'ardboyz. I can't blame a tournament for giving me unenjoyable opponents, but I do have a new appreciation for our local crew of gamers and the enjoyment I get out of our local tournaments. I had no issues with the pairings or schedule and I knew what to expect after playing 4 games in 1 day at the ATC. I know issues come up too and I honestly didn't even know we had delays. I spent the extra time chatting. My only gripe on the pairings is that out of 6 games, I only played on 4 different tables. Aaron that sucks that is the way you felt about the event. Though know I am curious about the chatter you heard with the ETC spot. My feeling was and maybe why I had so much fun was really whatever. If I made it great, if I didn't make it great I save myself $2000 Dollars. Honestly the only reason I came up to the event was from talking to Shaun and Jay. We don't have to many GT's and its all about the relationships that these events bring. I would have never met Nate if it wasn't for the first year of Da Boyz. I have huge amounts of respect for him too besides him being cool. (Even though you¡¦re from Canada) Same with Kyle Oman. I guess what I am saying is people shouldn't get worked up so much about winning as its nice but remember that you come to these events for fun and to build relationships. ha thanks Crimthaan, Honestly, I am just a guy like anybody else who loves the game. That being said I do marketing for a fortune 50 company so we always created the persona as "Darkwynn" as the Titan among MEN among MEN of the internet willing to come in and take your money and leaving you left behind. Or at least that is what Larry wants to think from Bols. Gets people happy and excited and I don't mind playing the bad guy at times. Plus people can feel like they have a common enemy or go after someone. It actually helps build healthy competition and causes discussion around the game which promotes growth. Overall though life is too short and we play this game in some form for fun. Even what Doug says is correct you play it for some reason and that end goal is for enjoyment or fun. That and GT are too limited and all groups are either tight knit or too small. It¡¦s always best to help out another group probably because I believe in karma will come back. That being said why reinvent the wheel again? We have all been there and between organizing, software, or little things we all have advice that we can share to create bigger and better events. That and we all know we are not doing this for the money or the women¡K and if they say they are¡K well you don¡¦t have either ƒº ***** okay it keeps changing my words to other words like Titan... I am lost on that one ... *****

I also got to talk to him about tiny boats, which made the weekend even better!

I played against six well balanced armies, only one of which had any spam whatsoever - a Templar player with two vindicators - so I think the comp rubric did just what it was meant to do; promote diversity.
I do think setting the pairings by comp scores for the first two rounds, with the restriction of not playing against folks from your region, or maybe FLGS in the case of Rochester players, is a good idea which could improve the experience for all even more.
Kuddos to Jay, Smitty, and the rest of the crew!

Who and HUH?
First about the venue...they had beer..nuff said there.
Second the missions, while quirky were neat except for some of the wording.
Third all my opponents were great except for one that was just okay. Remember that I go to a lot of national tournies and it is odd to have 6 games with 5 great and one okay. Next I want to say that I really enjoyed our game Aaron. It was probably one of the best games I have played in a while. I also really enjoyed playing sparks in the team tourny. It was great to have a chess match and loosing didnt bug me one bit heh. I think the Canadian guys have yet to figure me out hehe.
Fourth the paint scoring sucked. I have experienced this same issue in the past with similar scoring. There are really 2 issues here. First when you have a few large groups traveling together guess where their votes go...and second not everyone sees painting in the same way. I think a players choice is great but paint should be judged by consistent judges so everyone gets an equal shake and freind favorites are removed from the scoring.
Jay you guys did a great job. Next year I plan on helping out more but my recomendation is start early. I think your comp program is pretty good and I would play it again in a hearbeat. Heck...I beat Courtney in comp....thats gotta say something hehe.
