Hi all! I'm having fun making some blood angels... However I really want to paint them all in the same colors as the rest of my army, and just use it as a stand-in for the 8th company, which is all assault marines. First unit I've completed is a squad of "sanguinary guard", which I'm hoping should be suitably modeled to be used as such in games. As I'm playing you guys most of the time anyway, I thought I'd ask for general opinions. Here they are: Sanguinary Guard have the following wargear - Jump Packs, Master Crafted Power Weapons (2 handed), artificer armor, and Anglesus pattern bolters. These guys have special power weapons, beakie helmets to represent older armor (artificer), and for special pattern bolters, its not a stretch to imagine that they are just using heavier slugs (lower range, but higher AP value). Any comments / suggestions to make the models more suitable, or are they playable as-is?

Personally I hate "count-as" modeling since it seems to be used most often by marine players wanting to get the best rules without doing the hard work of creating an army to go with them. Hey that's just my opinion, on to your question:
I think you have a decent representation. I would add some purity seals, maybe a campaign badge or something like that since they are an elite unit and need some merit to differentiate them from your rank and file troops. Hope this idea helps.

Yea, I can definitely understand about the counts-as hate, however these guys aren't legal as anything BUT sanguinary guard... as far as I know, there is no space marine unit out there besides the sanguinary guard who use 2 handed power weapons with jump packs and bolters. edit - Also, I'm pretty much building this army from the ground up with new models, I just don't wanna paint em red I'll rummage through my bits box for some seals / trophies, thanks for the idea.

Remember seals are very easy to make too. All you need is a few strips of thin plastic card with a dab of greenstuff to tie it all together. Good luck with the project, post your results.

The armor really doesn't seem fancy enough to be artificer. It really needs something more to make it not look like an assault marine.
They've got a special pattern bolter, make it look different than what's on the tacticals one way or another. Maybe mount it to the arm and leave the hand free for that 2 handed power weapon?
In the pic posted my eyes went immediately to the dudes with the plasma pistols. Even after reading the description and looking back I still am seeing these guys looking like assault marines.
Long story less long: needs more bling.

They need nipples to count-as sanguinary guard IMO.
JK Steve they look great.
