So after talking to Courtney and his frustrations with the new codex I was sort of disenchanted with the new Crons, however after spending a few hours with it I think that the new codex has some promise.
First off, although new "reanimation protocols" is on a 5+ and not a 4+, it happens every PHASE. After the shooting phase, after the assault phase. This is pretty cool in my opinion. Prior to this all the "We'll be back rules" were done at the end of the turn correct? So if a unit took 6 casualties from shooting and 4 from assault it was dead. Now you get a chance to bring back 6 after shooting, and then bring back however many after assault. A very cool thing. Also, the new rule says nothing about power weapons or low AP weapons stopping reanimation, something that is better then the last rule. Now, my thought is that a 20 man squad of warriors can be an NASTY objective holding unit. 265 pts and you have 20 warriors with the stat line of marines (minus an armor value). Now, attach a minor lord with a res orb to the unit and you have 4+ armor, 4+ reanimation. It's going to take a lot to move that unit off an objective.

I sat down and wrote out the most broken necron list I could think of, just to see how crazy they could be Not that I'd make such a list, but d**n, this one DOES look nasty. HQ- Imotek, the Stormlord - 225 pts HQ- Phaeron- 110 pts HQ- Court - 95 pts Harbringer of Destruction w/ solar pulse Harbringer of Destruction HQ- Court - 95 pts Harbringer of Destruction w/ solar pulse Harbringer of Destruction Troops - 10 Immortals in Night Scythe - 270 pts Troops - 10 Immortals in Night Scythe - 270 pts Troops - 10 Immortals in Night Scythe - 270 pts Heavy - Doom Scythe - 175 pts Heavy - Doom Scythe - 175 pts Heavy - Doom Scythe - 175 pts

I'll just assault it with anything and run it down. Just like before.

I'm a bit behind on this codex as I've only read rumors and other blogs at this point. Stelek did post something saying "Time for a new king to enter the 40k universe." Not that many of us put much weight in his words.
My gut feeling is the impact the army brings to the meta game will reflect the pattern we saw with DE as opposed to GK. DE (and most xenos) required trial, error, and practice before we saw them making a major impact on the game scene. GK do the same thing as other marines, just shoot more and hit harder with less bodies.
I expect a learning curve with some frustration along the way, but once people "figure them out" they will be as potent as GK and DE.

x2 Necron Overlords 2x5 Harbingers of Destruction
x31 Necron Warriors
3x3 Heavy Destroyers
x3 Annihilation Barges
1750 ish points.

I am surprised CC does not like the new codex. I think it has a lot of interesting options and is going to have much more depth than the current codex. The changes IMO removed crutches that were needed by the old dex to compete, but this one seems to have some power.
I really like the synergy of Imotekh w/ some Solar Pulses in a foot based list.

i think the solar pulses are a waste, theydo not count for imoteks special attacks, and most of the army is short to mid range shooting anyway and doesn't suffer badly from night fight

This whole army is based around balance, loading up on one uint type won't win you a d**n thing. The only squad I'm gonna have doubles is are warriors and imortals. But every thin else is different. The big thing I'm mad about is just how crappy the monolith is.... you not gonna see it at all. IT should have drop pod rules.....

it sucks everyone in 6"to death, compared to its old rules, that's pretty awesome. drop pod rules in addition to that would be overkill.

I think the codex is both adaptable and flexable. I think there are several good builds and am suprised Chris is upset with the dex. I figured this was exactly how he liked to build armys. It is not the "autowin" dex that grey knights were and takes skill to win with. I like it.

I am liking what I see so far from the new dex. My core army is pretty much still valid except for the Flayed ones (they lost terrifying visage and did not gain anything special) but hey, I like the old models and they look like a tarpit unit so I'll find a spot for them. I am looking to pick up a couple of Ghost Arks soon to help with survivability plus an annihilation barge or two. One of the other things I like is that destroyers/heavey destroyers are now a FA slot rather than the heavies taking up a HS slot.
As for scarabs, they may sound broken but put them up against a flamer heavy list (Sisters, Guard, Marines) and watch them melt away. I forsee a lot of IG and Marine armies adding flamers and blast weapons in the near future, something DE do not have much access to. Plus, they lost the turbo boost rule so turn 2 assaults are still not guaranteed.
One question for you all, since none of my existing armies have "Preferred Enemy" I've never had to look it up but I see Destroyers now have the "Preferred Enemy, Everything!" rule. What does the Everything stand for? Re-rolls on shooting and CC?
After this weekend's tourney I am hoping to start play testing the new codex. Any takers???

PE is rerolled misses in CC only against targets that have a WS.
I'd love to test against the newcrons for sure. Kevin, Courtney, or anyone else who's playing with them.

Aaron, I'd like to get some games in with you once we get past this weekend's tourney. Let's talk this weekend if you are going to be at the tourney. If not, let's connect in the next week or so.
