Just to add a little more fuel to the fire, the Erie guys and I are excited for this tourney, seeing as we are obviously not part of the painting league, would we also need side boards or straight up 1850 lists? We can do either but knowing is half the battle and the more time we have to prepare the better. Other question I am getting is will there be comp scoring and painting requirements?

As as reminder the April Event will be a Feast of Blades qualifying event. I am still trying to wrap up all the information but feel free to go to www.feastofblades.com/ to take a look. We will be one of the first qualifiers for Feast of Blades in the country.

My army collections are also very small (except tyranids who won't be showing up to a painting tournament).
I'm wondering if an 1850pt list is suitable, or a 1350pt list with two identical "sideboards" at 500pts each.

Ok, Lots of questions so here we go
Q: I didn’t participate in the winter painting league (W.P.L. henceforth) so can I play? A: Yes it’s called the W.P.L tournament to just put a cap on the whole league.
Q: Does my army have to be painted? A:No. painting is going to be about 35-to 40% (last rubric had it at like 38%) note that to save space at the store DISPLAY BOARDS will not be scored. Q: Do I have to play my W.P.L army in this tournament? A:No, the W.P.L. only went to 1850 points, this tournament is a max size of 2350, so forcing people to add 500 points in 4 days to fully incorporate all the rules of this tournament is wrong. Play what you want to play.
Q: Can I build one 1850point list? A: No, there are two Mission that revolve around the side boards, so one 1350 list and one 500 point list
Q: Can my side board be from a different codex? A: Not this time, but that does sound hella fun idea (next year………)
Q: Do I need One Side board? A: Yes, this is the same as having two identical ones, as the player you will be choosing your side board each round no randomness
Q: Do I need two Side Boards? A: No, You can do the tournament with one and it will just be the “default one” you choose for your 3 games, Now the things to keep in mind is that you still will need to have at least one force org slot in your Total Pool of list, Secondly there are two Mission that revolve around the side boards so having a choice to deal with the missions is a plus.
Q: Can I fill out/upgrade units with the side boards? A: No, think of the list as different, so if you have a space marine squad in your main list you CANNOT buy a rhino for them in your side boards since it’s a dedicated transport. At the same time you could have a scout squad in the main army and a Land speeder storm in the side board since its not a dedicated transport same goes for unit/weapon upgrades.
Now that Q&A is done some other notes:
Main Army Build : 1350 Points: 1 HQ, 0-2 Elites, 2-4 Troops, 0-2 Fast, 0-2 Heavy 1-2 Side Board Army’s :: 500 points: 0-1 HQ, 0-1 Elites, 0-2 Troops, 0-1 Fast, 0-1 Heavy Also between the 2350 points you have, there must be a choice from each force org, Note that during your games you might not have all FO slots down (One of the “bonuses” of have two force org slots) also the side board army can be any mix, so they can be a repeat of each other and the only thing that’s different between the two is a melta gun
Codex marines will be silly good for this build, one side board has Vulcan, one has Khan, and your main build is a mix of armored assaults and melta/flamer spam based on what you have to do…. Just saying
Two mission revolve around the side boards, the other one is *Cough*painted related*Cough* have a well painted HQ, just saying.
Keep shooting off questions, I’ll keep answering them no matter how belligerent they come off. The tournament format is my idea, so I understand why there would be questions.
And one final note (I love using “note” makes me sound more like a pompous bastard) to keep the peace, no forge world allowed…… so you can put away the contemptor and airbrush.

Thanks Ben. Do you have a paint scoring rubric available? The reason I ask is my DE have more conversions and freehand than the GK, but won't have finished bases. Seeing a rubric would help make the decision easier.

*Also* Was the requirement of one unit from each FO slot mentioned before yesterday? That's a pretty heavy requirement to add to a non-comp painting tournament 2 weeks before...
Just asking because a friend who just threw down several hundred to start a new army won't be able to play because he doesn't own any FA units.

@aaron : I'll have the rubric up sometime this week, its gonna be pretty much like the daboyz ones. As for the FO comment, yes its been mention since the first post of the W.P.L. (if i wasn't doing this from my phone I'd link it) The reason this is because I could see people bringing two monster side boards so that's why its in there and to be honest, with the almost 2400 points you have available to build your list with it shouldn't be a issue, as for your buddy that's more understandable... buffalo40k, You guys were the best painted still at the store, so i gave you guys a shot out, best painted went to the daemons, one had to leave for a family enjoyment in cuse, and the other was late for a trip to Canada, understandable reason's.

Yup, found it on page 4 in between the team event chatter. Looks like my bud will have to sit this one out.
Hope nobody misses that important detail. I know some popular GK and SW builds that don't use FA units.
Follow my logic here. The painting league encouraged people to start new armies by giving them extra points at the auction. The painting league had no requirments for one unit from each FO. The painting league capped at 1850. Then, with just 3 weeks left in the league, you announce a new requirement to even play in the main event. Seems counter productive.
I'm better off bringing an army I painted last year even tho I paid to play in the league and dropped hundreds on a new army.

So if my army of Imperial guard had no heavies, i could say my required heavy is in one of my sideboards and then never use the sideboard with the heavy choice. And i could still play?

gotta love loop-holes haha luckily my GK can fill all the slots with 1 sideboard
i wasnt originally planning on attending this as i will not even have close to 1850 worth of painted grey knights((i really dont wanna use my crappy painted IG, i would rather get a crappy paint score for the army not being painted lol)) but i may just bring them even though they are a WIP.. if even just to get some more game experience with them, since i have a newborn child i dont get out often for 40k except to the monthly millennium tourney
