Here are some pics of my matches.
Game 1 vs Rob and his Guard.
Mission: 2 Objectives and Spearhead. I faced off against Rob last year and he beat my Chaos list so I knew I was going to be in trouble against his list as it contained 3 Leman Russ, 2 Valks, a hellhound and lots of troops.
Rob's deployment
My deployment
Both of us were squared off for a shooting match. At the end of Rob's turn one he had his russes castled in and started dropping pie plates all over my guardians. I figured I was screwed at this point as my only anti-tank was 5 fire dragons and 1 bright lance on my serpent.
My turn 2 my spiders come in and I land safely behind his right most tank. I end up penning and exploding it. I then jump back into the corner thinking they had done their job and were ready to die. I lose a couple to shooting in his turn 3, fail my leadership, and start to fall back. His HQ assaults me, I pass my leadership and regroup. A spider and the exarch survive and I am able to withdraw from CC. My turn 3 I end up penning and exploding the next russ. (see image below) The dice are the footprints of the 2 exploded russes.
Turn 4 the last 2 spiders shake off a bucket full of las guns and then destroy the 3rd russ. Rob finally gets his hellhound in on turn 4 and the 2 spiders end up immobilizing that. Those spiders ran me 174pts of my list and took out 3 tanks and a hellhound.
Shot of Rob's valk trying to outflank.
I was able to stun it on the last turn preventing him from contesting my objective. We draw on primary but I win on secondary and tertiary points.
Game 2 vs Dave O and his vanilla marines.
Mission: Mulitple Objectives - Dawn of war.
Dave starts with his 2 scout squads in the woods and ruins. I put my pathfinders in some terrain. His first turn he brings in everything but his assault marines/chaplain.
I bring in everything except for spiders(DS) and my walkers (outflank)
Turn 2 I was worried about the Land Raider so I flat out moved my serpent with dragons.
He fails to knock out both serpents. Following turn you can see that my dragons exploded the land raider and my serpent goes back into the corner. In a later turn I lost the dragons but I was happy with an 80pt unit taking out the 200pt plus threat.
Spiders come in near his devastators and after 2 turns of shooting they wipe them out.
Later in the game the spiders would whittle down a tac squad on his objective and then assault. Dave piles in a scout squad to wipe out the spiders but they hang on to contest. The wounded serpent that had the fire dragons was able to contest his other objective and I held onto my 2. Full points to me that game.
Game 3 vs Doug and his Chaos marines
Mission: Pitched Battle - KPs
I did not have a good feeling about this game... 9 oblits, 2 daemon princes, 3 squads of plague marines and a greater daemon.
Doug's deployment. The 3 oblit squads are in the woods to the left.
Here's my placement at the end of turn 1. I was hopeful after turn one due to focus firing and taking out 1 squad of oblits. Doug then got his princes up close and personal leading to a bunch of CC's that ended up going to 3-4 turns. Avatar and the one prince fought it out and after I killed that prince the greater daemon came in and tied Avatar up until the end of the game. My 1 guardian squad with a warlock ended up with just a warlock vs the prince but my warlock kept making his saves. Eldrad ended up joining that fight and after a few rounds the killed the prince. Spiders only accounted for 1 Rhino kill and a plague marine kill. However, they did force one oblit squad to spend a round shooting at it since one of the objectives was table quarters.
In the end I won on KP and Victory points and doug had quarters. If it would have went to turn 6 I would have easily lost as at that point I had 0 troops left and everything else was beaten down. This was hands down the toughest match of the day.
All in all, the spiders were the MVPs of the day, easily taking out over double their points in the 1st 2 games. Dark Reapers also did well the first 2 games as I don't think my opponents realized the damage the reaper launchers and tempest launcher can do. Doug knew what they could do and had neutralized them early in the game.
Definitely a good time and I was glad to see more people show up to the event this year.
