With the changes to Jump Packs and Rage. Am I the only one who thinks they have the potential to be a very nasty unit? I could never justify their points cost especially with packs in 5th ed but I am rethinking it now.
Think about it. Bolt pistol and cc weapon. They have three attacks, two base on profile and are ws5. Fearless doesn't suck anymore and fnp works on everything except instant death.
On the charge they get +2 attacks and the impact hit. So six attacks each on the charge.
Take a chaplain with re-rolls for all hits and wounds and might as well take lemartes then since he is only 25 points more then one with a pack. And he is iniative six.
Now lets talk about Lemartes a moment. His power maul makes him strength 6. But if you put a wound on him he gets bumped up to base strength 5 and 5 base attacks, so strength 7 with the maul standard and +1 str for furious charge. Six base attacks, or 8 attacks on the charge at strength 8 on initiative 6! With an additional impact hit at strength 5. Rerolling everything. Even if the Maul is only ap4, thats enough to slaughter tanks and most anything else through sheer volume of attacks. That's arguably more potent then Mephiston is some cases.
Not to mention the I would say 5 other death company with him. Giving him a pretty decent shield of bodies that are all also very scary. Now running 5 Death Company in packs with Lemartes will cost you a pretty penny. Easily in the mid 300 range. But its a unit your enemy wwill have to deal with or suffer for it, which potentially keeps a lot of fire power off the rest of you army.
And you don't really need to run a chaplain with them, it might even be overkill and then those 5 will clock in much cheaper. I think I will play around with death company in this new edition. But this is just some food for thought.
