Sorry Craig we have a rule about codices being out at least 30 days before our events in order for them to be played. It gives people enough time to play with them/against them versus being caught out in the open the week after a book comes out. It also slows play quite a bit because the player has to go the rules and the opponent doesn't believe the player so they have to go to the rules. It's just messy.
To touch on some of the other comments. I specifically started doing hobby based stuff the 4th Saturday of the month because we changed tourneys to not worry about that so that people can get time to get there armies together and stuff painted. That said more then 70% of the armies at the last two events have been painted. Look at the pictures posted. So to say that we as a store, have gone away from the hobby end of the game is non sense. I do have GW's "twice the size of last one" paint rack and all their supplies. I do want to sell that stock as well.
Not trying to be harsh Joe, but are you just looking to win a painting prize? I mean Doug did award you "World's Best 40k Painter". That's huge. You can make a plaque and put it on the mantle. ;D
Look I get that its a hobby and not just game. To some it's more for painting and to others its more to playing. Obviously people are going to favor whichever element they are good at more. Whether it be the art or the game play.
As a retailer/tournament organizer I need to offer events that cater to the most people. Early on with the new edition not having painting required made the most sense. In the interim, I added an entire new weekend event just for hobbyist. Hopefully people are showing up for both as they are both important for the community as a whole. If your a hobbyist and your not showing up for the hobbyist events then your missing your chance to push painting on the rest of the player's. I have no doubt some could use experienced painters advice.
I hope that clears our position up a bit.

I get your point and I also understand Aaron and Doug are just ribbinb me hehe. I think I have been to all the hobby events and am trying to do everything I can to help you out. I am always up to help teach people to paint, do terrain, and learn the game. My fear is I see the trend and I want to make sure it does not stick. I saw it happen in Georgia and it killed the game and a few stores. I saw it happen in TN and it almost put a freind of mine out of business. I have your best interest in mind because without you I dont have a group to brag to about my painting hehehe ;D (that is sarcasm by the way ) All that said...Doug telling me I am the best painter is only half enough...I want a perma plack on the gaming walls heheh (just kidding heh)

Unfortunately i think you may be dissapointed yet again(at least for MG), when i first started attending tournaments at MG they were alternating monthly from 40k to fantasy, but lack of attendance caused travis to go with 40k every month, just from reading the boards i can see some of the usual 40k players also play fantasy, i always wanted to get back into fantasy so i wouldnt be against maybe a few a year but i doubt it would go back to half/half since its safe to say 40k participation consistently would double fantasy(on average)

Guys at this point I dont think I am going to make the event tomorrow. I have been sick all week and tried to go to work today (just so the wife would not say I cant go to the tourney hehe) and I dont think I will make it the entire day.
I just want to let you know so you dont think I am being elitist because painting is not involved. I really had planned on coming.
That said I may head to the store to get the Chaos Codex and buy a crap ton of demons heh.

Craig,
We will never run a miniatures event on a Sunday. We currently run Card Game tournaments that day. With the number of people attending card game game events for Magic and Yu-gi-oh we would never have the space. While I like miniatures events I can get one mini player per table where I can get 4-6 card players per table. Saturdays have always been for mini's and Sunday's for cards.
I will check the pulse of fantasy at the GT there may be a chance we run a fantasy event or two next year. Although I can't remember the last time someone came in and played fantasy. I have more people playing War of the Ring then fantasy. When Dreadball gets here it's gonna take the place by storm.
See you tomorrow.
