After reading it i believe the codex as bad as it may ook to old time chaos guys isnt so bad for a few reasons:
1.) There are enough options to customize your army to a variety of the original legions, although some took a hit, theres a lack of special rules in comparioson to the charactes from the vanilla space marines, for example shrike gives you a little bit of flavor for raven guard although there isnt the ability to play a true raven guard army..well look at their chaos counterpart the night lords..there is nothing to allow that legion to play as it would in fluff..i wont even mention warp talons as the night lords rather have a distaste for chaos
2.) The troops are solid, as well as marks unlocking yet more solid troop choices, berzerkers are still solid, not as good as theyve been but still solid, plague marines with their ccw are now a little bit better, thousand sons remain pretty much the same, and noise marines are cheaper and about the same..cultists are great and csm taken without ccw are cheaper than vanilla.
3.) the big guys are pretty cool, not necessarily the close combat fiend but the hellbrute unlike the old dread is more predictable, and the helldrake is a killer, combine with the warp smith and these fiends can be pretty tough to take down.
The trend with the 6th ed codices looks to follow the 8th ed fantasy trend, internal game balance with armies getting nice big units and toned down in the cheesy department, if matt ward discontinues his aptitude for breaking armies and the codices all turn out similar the game will be much more balanced and fun, with each army having a fighting chance against each other.
