Since the new codex came out one of the HQ units that really appealed to me was the Warpsmith. If anyone has read the Storm of Iron book or any of the Word Bearers trilogy you know that they feature a dark tech priest type of character and I always wanted something like that in my army. Now that this character is a viable unit in the new book I really wanted to get one.
Well, for starters, GW's version is Finecast... nuff' said. While the model is ok, there is no way I am going to drop $30 on something that is bound to be riddled with holes, warped, and those mech-tendrils are just begging to be snapped off.
So when I was going through the Dark Vengeance box set, this guy jumped out at me with his intimidating, wolverine-esqe look. Right away I knew I found my Warpsmith model.
First thing I did was lop off his lightning claws just below the shoulder pads.
Then I went nuts with adding sections of guitar wire, weapon bits, new arms, etc... and the result is what you see below.
I still need to green stuff some of the joins and add in some wires but overall the basic build is done.
It may not be as hefty as GW's model but it was a blast to kit-bash and build over the last few weeks.
Once this model is done I'll jump back to this guy.
I started converting him over to a Dark Apostle back when I first got the box set. Overall, this model is going to stay pretty much the same except I'm going to cut out the helmet in his hand and try to sculpt in a book or scroll. Then I want to add in some chaos icons or a brazer from the corpse cart set. I also plan on adding the scroll work for the litanies of hate just like I did for my chaos vehicles. I'll post picks as work progresses with this model.
Also on my painting table are some 40 or so cultists, 10 metal raptors, 5 chaos bikers, 10 plague bearers, 5 fiends of slaneesh, a new chaos display board and I want to build a custom aegis line for my chaos army. Plus, I still need to pick up the helldrake and possible some of the other daemon engine models after the holidays. Whew... I'll be busy for awhile!
